Instanced object in particle system is not being displayed in 'Particle Mode' when painting / adding particles by hand.
When you open the file attached you will see the particles until you manipulate the 3d viewport in anyway.
If you exist the 'Particle Mode' you will see the instanced objects.

It is important to see the object in ' Particle Mode' along with the hair guide ( like in 2.49b) so you can see how the object look
while you are painting them by hand.

Another issue is that the instanced particles do not obey the real / original object's center pivot .
Please see attached file. Thanks to all in advance.

  • Had a look at this, but it seems like this is a limitation of the particle/hair system. The path cache is not generated for hair in edit mode, comment in code says:

"in edit mode paths are needed for child particles and dynamic hair"

Will leave this to Janne Karhu, this stuff is impossible to get right without life-threatening headaches.

  • This seems to be a duplicate of #28881
