Summary:
OpenGL viewport render is distorted in 2.50a2
Detailed description
Using either the still or animated options for OpenGL rendering of a UI viewport, the rendered image is distorted.

For any but a particular image aspect ratio (approximately 2:1), the rendered image is either stretched or squashed. In all cases the rendered image is transposed and cropped compared to the subject's position in the frame of the UI windows.

The amount of transposition in the frame is also dependent on the specific pixel dimensions, even with the 2:1 image aspect ratio, e.g, at 640x320 the displacement is different than at 960x480.

This applies when rendering a User Orthographic, User Perpsective, or Active Camera view. See attached zip archive for annotated screenshots and the .blend used to produce them.

Windows XP Home, SP2
P4 2.5GHz
1Gb RAM
Nvidia GeForce FX 5200 256Mb
Forceware 93.71
Blender 2.50a2, BF version, bundled Python
Python 2.6 installed on system

  • Using blender 30114 on MacOS X a similar problem occurs. The openGL render is scaled up & cropped off (output is the correct size but it is as if the camera is zoomed in). A full 'F12' render does not suffer from this problem. I have tried many different files (which do not cause this problem on other MacOS machines) on the same machine and all have the same problem.

Changing window draw method and turning VBOs on and off did not make a difference.

Ok, the issue is still sadly present, but I never experienced this in 2.54 or earlier. Which means there is at the least a small regression around :(

  • Hooray for using old hardware here!

I noticed the GPU_offscreen_create() function made buffers in multiples of 512 here. Probably older graphics systems don't support this well yet.
Fix uses the actual size as returned by gfx card. More elaborate cropping and matching is for another time.

  • Hi,
I do have the same problem on every apple computer with ATI card I've tried. With blender 2.50 to 2.59 !
OpenGL preview is deformed and cropped. And I can't correct this even by tweaking the ratio, and I didn't understand your "Fix uses the actual size as returned by gfx card".
I know you're busy, but this is a big problem for working on animation on every new mac computers (they stopped selling Nvidia's graphic cards)
basically, that's what the terminal says when rendering this opengl preview :

Offscreen size differs from given size!

    Cheers !
