Summary:
Image browsing crashes blender
Detailed description
Every time I try to select an image, blender crashes.
I create a new texture
Set type as "image or movie"
go to the "image" section - Click on the "Open" button
The File viewer appears to start building and then (95% of the time) blender crashes
I'm at a complete loss as to why - Normal file navigation appears to work within blender, its when I try and search for pictures that it falls over.
My pictures folder has lots of files and folders but I can't thik that that is the problem.
I have a Laptop with Vista if that helps!
...On further investigation. Some folders appear to work ok and display image thumbnails.
It appears to depend on the images themselves - a particular problem appears to be bmp files.
Folders without these files work ok
The enclosed an image file that crashes my system every time

tested the image and it previews in the image browser ok: linux-64bitm r32714.
Are you sure this image is the problem, did you test looking at this file in a directory with no other files inside it?

looks like bitmaps other than 24bit are not supported currently in Blender on Windows (unknown fileformat). No crashing though. r32725. Please test to see if this still happens with a recent build. (Note, probably in the next few days Blender 2.55 beta will be released).

Hi
Yes I tested this file on its own in a folder and it crashed.
It didn't crash with just a png or the folder being empty.
I'm using Windows Vista on my laptop. It could be a corrupt image but paint and paint.net open it ok. I tried running it through infraview which is quite good at fixing image problems but that didn't work either.
There were other problems with other images in other folders too and not just bmp's.

Strange it would work on linux but not windows, could this be because of QuickTime loading the BMP on windows?

@Will Howell
ca you run blender in the command line, with the parameter -d
Probably you see the reason in the debug output for the crash.
No problems on gentoo and ubuntu system - same blender build.
