Deep shadows are rendered although objetct's shadow casting is disabled
Detailed description
I've attached a blend example.

This happens only with deep shadow buffer lamps. Objects that have shadow buffer casting turned off are still taken into account by the shadow buffer calculations. Therefore, those unwanted shadows are still rendered.

In the scene, the shadow buffer casting property of the strands material is turned off, but the strand shadows are projected anyway.
