While using blender 2.55 (official beta release from blender.org) for 32bit linux on a Ubuntu 10.10 64bit systems, I can't seem to get the master node IP field to stay set.

If I save the file multiple times and reopen the file, the field is always reverted back to [Default], this preventing me from storing the IP of the master in the .blend files that I distribute to the slave nodes.

I currently have 3 nodes on the same subnet, and am able to join a 4th slave node from a different subnet manually, but I suspect that the only reason I got net rendering working today was because the master was broadcasting and in the same subnet for all the headless nodes. The X window slave that was in a different subnet had the IP entered manually.
