Summary:
Bold and Italics checkboxes for Text objects seem to do nothing
Detailed description
Enabling the bold and italics checkboxes for text objects doesn't appear to do anything. Ideally, these checkboxes would autoload the italic or bold versions of the selected font. Alternatively, in 2.4x, we could use these checkboxes to load any arbitrary font that could be defined as the bold or italic font. Neither functionality seems to be available.

  • Which of the font types in 2.4 did work fine? Make a 2.4 .blend with font in // saved, and try to load in 2.5.
If that fails nicely, attach to this report :)

  • Attached a .blend created in 2.49-svn. I *think* that the fonts are packed with the file (packing fonts doesn't seem to work in 2.49b anymore and there's no easy way to find out if fonts are packed in 2.5x; in fact, there's no 'pack font' button anywhere).

Either way, each line of type in the text object should have a different font assigned to it, indicated by enabling bold, italics, and both. The fonts appear different in 2.5, but when you hightlight text in Edit mode and click the bold or italics checkboxes, nothing happens. Contrast this to the behavior seen in 2.49b.

  • Jason, pressing the bold toggle only means new text you type in will be bold.
To toggle selected text, see the Text menu in the 3D view to toggle bold, italic etc. there are keys for this too.

Confirmed missing access to bold/italic fonts. This is simple to add but the ID template needs to be able to load them and currently there is no way to do this without having 4 different operators which I why I didnt commit this already.

assigning to myself since I already started on this.
