Summary:
Particle Hair strange behavior when amount set to 0 and hair added in particle mode *RE-TEST NEEDED*
Detailed description
Hello Blender Team,

I found this bug while messing around with eyebrows and stuff like that...
When I make brows I like to set the Particle amount to 0 and then add particles
by myself in the Particle Mode.

If I do that Blender will only render the root of the hair as a halo (or at least it
looks like halos)
See the left Cube in the blend file!

But if I set the amount to 1 (or any number higher than 0) and then go to Particle Mode
and delete the one generated and add hair where i want it everything works fine.
See right Cube in the blend file!

I know one can live with that bug but it's really anoying sometimes.

I'd be very pleased if you could fix it.

To my System:

Windows 7 Professionel 64x (German)
Nvidia GeForce 460 (Gainward, 1024MB, up to DirectX11)
Intel Core Two Duo E6550 @ 2.33GHz
2GB DDR2 RAM

Blender 2.55.0 64x
Python 2.7.1 (not shure sry i think it's the 64x not 32x)

    I can't reproduce this bug.
Attached .blend file renders correctly, here.

  • Unable to reproduce on Windows 7 Pro 32 bit r33644 using the the file provided, also when trying to reproduce it myself.

Try downloading the latest revision from http://graphicall.org/ and trying this bug again, 2.55 is quite old by now.

  • Both cubes and hair render just fine for me too. This could very well be fixed already, so please test with the latest test build like Davis suggested.

  • Also unable to reproduce with Ubuntu 10.10 32 bit at about revision 33700 or so (I don't have access to that computer right now). I'm quite sure that it has been fixed in one of the thousand or so revisions since 2.55.0.

  • Luca: The builds from blender.org are the official builds, but these are only made when a sufficient amount of fixes or new functionality has been added. However you can always find the latest user made builds from graphicall.org.
