Summary:
Content of the User preferences panel is vibrating.
Detailed description
Blender 2.56.0 b33949 official beta build
Win 7 x64
Nvidia GTX 480
Screen res : 1920 x 1200

When I open the User Preference panel, its content is vibrating horizontally.
It happens only in the editing and system sub-pages.

1) Launch blender using the default start-up scene
2) open the user preference panel in the main window area using the bottom left editor type icon of the main window.
3) open the "editing" sub-panel

the content of the "editing" sub-panel is vibrating horizontally at very high speed.

I tried with blender 2.55.1 b33582m: the problem doesn't occur.

  • Can't confirm the issue here. Vista x32. nVidia 8600GT

  • This is wierd, but yes I can confirm this bug on my machine too.
    Last SVN (r33968), Ubuntu 10.10 x32-64, GTX 275 (nv driver 260.19.06).

    I tried to open it on my Debug build too, but there was no error trace in gdb.

  • To make things clear, you open the user preferences via the editor type menu in the timeline area?

  • Yes you are right to ask, I was not precise in the modus operandi.

    Well, if I simply follow the instructions given, starting from nothing, it's not vibrating.
    But it does if I open the Blend file attached.

    Feel free to ask for more if you need.

  • Still can't reproduce this, even with the attached blend file. Sorry!
    But I am sure we find out what's wrong.

  • No error here either, mac osx, 1920x1200 screen too.

    Please make sure the binary uses the 2.56 UI scripts, run it from the same directory as where you unpacked the download to check.
    Also use "file -> factory settings" first, to rule out something weird in your defaults...

  • I used the "file -> factory settings" and everything is fine now.

  • well; can you locate where your startup.blend is, and attach it here?

  • Euh...
    Unfortunately I "saved as default" after the "file -> factory settings" and the startup.blend is not located in a folder that is part of my backup system.
    Thus I don't have the previous startup.blend.
    I don't know it that can help, but to create the ubug.blend I attached when submitting the bug, I performed the following operations:
    Launch blender 2.56
    File -> save as.
    nothing else.
    That file allows me to reproduce the discussed behavior every time.

  • Try to redo this error on a different system? It is maybe related to the window size that opens. Or maybe you use full-screen?
    Try resizing blender window if that makes error go away, and whatever you can think of... in order to be able to fix this, we need your help how to redo this issue!

  • confirmed.
    r34029 @ linux64, nivida 8800GT system python 3.1.2

    after opening ubug.blend and switching to the 'Editing' tab it starts vibrating.
    after that, any tab I switch to vibrates.
    in the tab bar only the 'System' tab resizes
    in the content area below, the first column is stable

    a small resize of the area fixes it, but if you carefully resize horizontally you trigger the loop again.
    I'll attach my startup.blend just in case.

  • A new point:
    I opened my ubug.blend.
    It vibrates.
    Then I went to file->load factory settings
    and then opened the user preference panel.
    It vibrates !
    That makes me thinking of something that is read from the blend file but not reset by a load factory command.
    I was not able to make it vibrating without opening the ubug.blend.

    I also tried with different screen resolutions with blender full screen (using the Windows full screen button not the blender one that takes the whole screen)
    at 1920x1200 -> I can make it vibrating
    at 1680x1050 -> I can make it vibrating
    at 1280x800 -> I cannot do it.
    at 1280x1024 -> I can make it vibrating

    I also tried with different screen resolutions with blender full full screen (using the blender button that make it using the whole screen surface)
    at 1920x1200 -> I cannot do it.
    at 1680x1050 -> I cannot do it.
    at 1280x800 -> I cannot do it.
    at 1280x1024 -> I cannot do it.

    Back at 1920x1200: I am able to make it vibrating event if blender is not full screen but windowed. windowed.png is a screenshot of a size that makes it vibrating,
    just in case it might help you to find the exact size that makes it vibrating.

  • I also looked at the datablock data window :
    The Screen->default->areas->area->regions->region->width indicates the width of the vibrating area.
    When full screen at 1920x1200 a width value of 1588 make it vibrating.
    But, if move the separator between the area and set it back to a 1588 position, it does not vibrate....
    Thus I have really no easy receipt to make it vibrating. It's more a kind of trial and error.

  • I tried many things, but nothing goes wrong. Also the startup.blend as attached works as expected.

    It is well possible that the actual window size differs 1 or more pixels per OS... in OSX here.
    Since Mario here can redo the issue, i can start a debug session with him tomorrow.

  • Committed fix for this, verified by Mario in irc. Check it too? r35403
