Blender 2.56.1 r34744M
Try to import attached collada file.
It crashes when switching to "Textured" view port shading
This is due to the "bind_material" elements in the 2nd and 3rd occurrences of the mesh in the visual_scene
This is a regression from Blender 2.49

confirmed, the image pointer is corrupt.

Import OK with 2.4+ and no joy with 2.5b. See error report file and zip dae if it will load. dae is from Google Skecthup 7.1 and dae extracetd from KMZ Google Earth file

Hrm, I see different results between 64bit and 32bit builds on Windows. 32bit build goes fine and has even slightly different mesh for the one that's in object gnode_default83.
Investigating further.

Nathan, Sorry I did not give you all the info. I am running Widows XP Pro sp3 ( 32 bit), P4 3.3GHz, Intel PERL 865 Mother Board, Graphics e-GeForce 7600GT ( nvida)

Fixed the bug in r35416. That it worked for me on my 32bit builds was just pure luck :) Anyway, update to said revision (and also remember to update lib/windows before building), and you should have properly working import for the reported file.
