Summary:
Crash when selecting image pack button
Detailed description
blender svn 35210, 32bit linux
built on ubuntu 10.04 32bit
2GB RAM, pentium M CPU
Intel graphics

If drop-down lists are considered windows, this bug may fall under the category of crashing when opening windows.

Put the two attached .blend and .tif files in the same folder, open the .blend and go to the texture panel. In the Image section double-click with varying speed on the pack image button and in the dialog that comes up over the pack image button and Blender will often crash. Alternating single and double clicks brings the crash more quickly, but at times only two clicks are needed. Sometimes it takes twenty or more clicks. The crash has also occurred in the standard release of 256a.

Memory usage is stable at 15% during the crash test, but CPU usage bounces off 100%. Less complex and more complex files didn't crash while doing this test. May be some sort of timing problem when rewriting portions of the screen, because the crash seems more likely when the preview area and UV screen are open.

  • This is quite unclear to me.

First of all, a double click has no meaning in this part of the UI.
Second: the file you attached already has the tif packed. So downloading the tif doesn't seem to be required for this test.

So: on a click on the pack icon, you get a popup menu to ask what option you want. the first option is "remove pack". Your double-click attempts probably select the first item then. Redoing this a couple of times indeed crashes in the preview render, which atempts to use the image while a click re-allocates or frees it.

  • Thanks for the report.
I also fixed crashes on 'reload' and other options there. :)

  • Marvelous. :-)

Sorry for the confusion, but I included the .tif so the pack dialog list would be populated with the same options as when the crashes occurred. Blender seemed less likely to crash without it.
