1. hit render
2. the result is unimaginable

Let me present here another bug (I'm not sure that it's close but it's the same theme: particle hair objects)

Faces, Jittered choice doesn't give a straight result- one of objects is not on it's place that was supposed to be.

1. click Grid
2. no particle objects at all!
3. and then I tried to ... render. I was surprised because Blender just quited (without a crash message). Is it crash?

4. then I tried another file (from sratch, without Array) - HairPArticles_Grid_noObjects.blend

5. no objects with Grid again but no "quitting"

Thanks for the report, fixes committed in r35430!

You haven't defined a rotation for the particles, so the dupliobjects rotation can change at render time. To keep the rotations consistent select "Normal" from the initial rotation menu, and rotate the dupliobject so that the duplicated objects are aligned to the surface.

I added a small new feature that forces all jittered particles to the centers of the faces, so set the "Particles/Face" in the emission panel to 1 to fix the one particle that wasn't in place.

Grid distribution is not really suited for hair, so the options are now disabled for hair.
