Summary:
Smooth Shading wrong when initially set then it fixes it self when tabbing in and out of edit mode.
Detailed description
I am using Blender SVN 35715.

When I open a default scene, with the cube in it. Delete the cube and add a uvsphere and them imediately set its shading to smooth, the smooth shading appears distorted. If I then press the tab key repeatedly to toggle between edit and object modes, the shading issue appears to fix itself. As does using CTRL+n

Attached is a picture showing the uv sphere after setting it to smooth shading and my system-info file
