- I installed from:
Index of /release/Blender2.57/ blender-2.57-RC0-r35816-windows32.exe 2011-Mar-27 09:58:36 15.8M application/octet-stream
For what it is worth: all the scrips, addons, modules,... are in my Windows Explorer table. I noticed that the COMPILED PYTHON SCRIPTS (*.pyc) are now in seperate "__pycache__" sub-directories (folders) AND THAT THEY HAVE DIFFERENT NAMES For instance:
C:\Program Files\Blender Foundation\2.5RCI-r35816\2.56\scripts\modules\bpy\ops.py and C:\Program Files\Blender Foundation\2.5RCI-r35816\2.56\scripts\modules\bpy\__pycache__\ops.cpython-32.pyc

- On second consideration I am confused seeing that a download of "blender-2.57-RCO-r35816" has made "2.5RCI-r35816" directories in my Windows XP-Explorer?

- hmm, can you try just extracting the contents to your desktop instead of program files? I'm suspecting privilege problems here. You probably had to use admin privileges to move the contents tho C:\Program Files\Blender Foundation. The RC0 (which indeed accidently containse a directory with RC1 in the name) is just a zip package, not intended to be moved to Program Files.

- I just downloaded this same zip-package for the second time. See "2.57 downloads.JPG ". And unzipped it, as I did the first time, in the very place that it automatically proposed.
I have full rights and privileges on my computer and, the first time - yesterday - I COPIED it afterwards to its new-made directory in Program Files\Blender Foundation, leaving the original where it was
Today I left everything where the zip-package had put it. See "Today-download.JPG" Now I launched this new blender.exe from there and saw that it's not bettert than yesterday's. All the same addons are missing... the same otherwise named directory was made plus a 2.56 sub-directory. And the Splash Screen says I have 256.5 r35816..
I am not in a position to do or say more. This thing goes far beyond my head.

- Well, a last word. See this "Report-section of I-window not customizable.JPG". It contains all - a very long list- the reports about the "runtime errors" that occurred during the launching of this new 2.56.5 r35816 -blender-session, that prevented addons from being loaded. And indeed, it seems to me that ,neither text (black=selected; white=NOT sel) nor backgrounds (red=selected; blue=not sel) are customizable. A sin against Blender-phylosophy ??

- If you have saved user preferences with an older version, please make sure you test with factory defaults too. In blender do: File > Load Factory Settings, then save these default settings as your user preferences. Before doing so you may want to make a backup copy of your current startup.blend. Look in %APPDATA%\Blender Foundation\Blender\2.56\config.
After saving the factory defaults as your settings restart blender.

- If after that problems still exist, also try renaming %APPDATA%\Blender Foundation\Blender\2.56 temporarily to something like %APPDATA%\Blender Foundation\Blender\2.56.orig. I'm thinking that an install directory from an older Blender version is interfering with proper startup. With actual 2.57 release there'll be a new settings folder in %APPDATA% anyway.

- Glory Hallelujah ! These last remarks have done a miracle. I don't exactly know how. Opening the new Blender 2.56.5, loading the factory settings, CTRL-U ; restarting ... and practically NO more missing addons. Activated them all; CTRL-U; and I am happy !.
Thank you for the miracle.
BTW meanwile I found out that in my old 2.56.0, adding a mesh and tweaking it in the Tools;-panel each time a new object was created 000, 001, 002n... aND THAZT IS NOT THE CASE IN 2.56.5 8
Thank you very much.

- Thanks for testing. This means that with actual release this won't be a problem anyway.
