Works good to me. Thanks for including the discussion points from the chat.
It's not just keymap issue. The operator itself does not support grease pencil and other object modes at the same time. It's an issue with the implementation.

One more issue I've found: Material colors not visible when using Subdiv modifier with "Edit Mode" enabled and "On Cage"
