This is the conventional way of dealing with unused arguments in C++,
since it works on all compilers.
Regex find and replace: `UNUSED\((\w+)\)` -> `/*$1*/`
This adds support for showing geometry passed to the Viewer in the 3d
viewport (instead of just in the spreadsheet). The "viewer geometry"
bypasses the group output. So it is not necessary to change the final
output of the node group to be able to see the intermediate geometry.
**Activation and deactivation of a viewer node**
* A viewer node is activated by clicking on it.
* Ctrl+shift+click on any node/socket connects it to the viewer and
makes it active.
* Ctrl+shift+click in empty space deactivates the active viewer.
* When the active viewer is not visible anymore (e.g. another object
is selected, or the current node group is exit), it is deactivated.
* Clicking on the icon in the header of the Viewer node toggles whether
its active or not.
**Pinning**
* The spreadsheet still allows pinning the active viewer as before.
When pinned, the spreadsheet still references the viewer node even
when it becomes inactive.
* The viewport does not support pinning at the moment. It always shows
the active viewer.
**Attribute**
* When a field is linked to the second input of the viewer node it is
displayed as an overlay in the viewport.
* When possible the correct domain for the attribute is determined
automatically. This does not work in all cases. It falls back to the
face corner domain on meshes and the point domain on curves. When
necessary, the domain can be picked manually.
* The spreadsheet now only shows the "Viewer" column for the domain
that is selected in the Viewer node.
* Instance attributes are visualized as a constant color per instance.
**Viewport Options**
* The attribute overlay opacity can be controlled with the "Viewer Node"
setting in the overlays popover.
* A viewport can be configured not to show intermediate viewer-geometry
by disabling the "Viewer Node" option in the "View" menu.
**Implementation Details**
* The "spreadsheet context path" was generalized to a "viewer path" that
is used in more places now.
* The viewer node itself determines the attribute domain, evaluates the
field and stores the result in a `.viewer` attribute.
* A new "viewer attribute' overlay displays the data from the `.viewer`
attribute.
* The ground truth for the active viewer node is stored in the workspace
now. Node editors, spreadsheets and viewports retrieve the active
viewer from there unless they are pinned.
* The depsgraph object iterator has a new "viewer path" setting. When set,
the viewed geometry of the corresponding object is part of the iterator
instead of the final evaluated geometry.
* To support the instance attribute overlay `DupliObject` was extended
to contain the information necessary for drawing the overlay.
* The ctrl+shift+click operator has been refactored so that it can make
existing links to viewers active again.
* The auto-domain-detection in the Viewer node works by checking the
"preferred domain" for every field input. If there is not exactly one
preferred domain, the fallback is used.
Known limitations:
* Loose edges of meshes don't have the attribute overlay. This could be
added separately if necessary.
* Some attributes are hard to visualize as a color directly. For example,
the values might have to be normalized or some should be drawn as arrays.
For now, we encourage users to build node groups that generate appropriate
viewer-geometry. We might include some of that functionality in future versions.
Support for displaying attribute values as text in the viewport is planned as well.
* There seems to be an issue with the attribute overlay for pointclouds on
nvidia gpus, to be investigated.

The compression as sRGB is mostly an implementation detail and showing the
integers does not make it clear what the actual values are that will be used
for computations in geometry nodes. This follows the general convention that
colors in Blender are displayed and edited in scene linear floats.
The raw sRGB bytes can still be viewed as a tooltip.

Since {rBeae36be372a6b16ee3e76eff0485a47da4f3c230} the distinction
between float and byte colors is more explicit in the ui. So far, geometry
nodes couldn't really deal with byte colors in general. This patch fixes that.
There is still only one color socket, which contains float colors. Conversion
to and from byte colors is done when read from or writing to attributes.
* Support writing to byte color attributes in Store Named Attribute node.
* Support converting to/from byte color in attribute conversion operator.
* Support propagating byte color attributes.
* Add all the implicit conversions from byte colors to the other types.

This commit renames enums related the "Curve" object type and ID type
to add `_LEGACY` to the end. The idea is to make our aspirations clearer
in the code and to avoid ambiguities between `CURVE` and `CURVES`.

Each reference would only be updated at most once, but most of the time no update is needed at all.
Idea: By grouping the changes together will reduce the number of checks resulting in improved performance.
This would only require N checks. Additional benefits is improved data locality as data is only loaded once
in the L2 cache.
It has be implemented for the resyncing process and UI editors.
On an Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-6700 CPU @ 3.40GHz 16Gig the resyncing process went
from 170 seconds to 145 seconds (during hotspot recording).
After this patch has been applied we could add similar approach
to references (references between data blocks) and functionality (tagged deletion).
In my understanding this could reduce the resyncing process to less than a second.
Opening the village production file between 10 and 20 seconds.

This commit introduced some regressions in the test suite.
As this change is a core part of blender Bastien and I decided to revert
it as the solution isn't clear and needs more investigation.
The following tests FAILED:
62 - blendfile_liblink (SEGFAULT)
63 - blendfile_library_overrides (SEGFAULT)

The region used to be type "Channels", but the standard for this
type is "Tools", which is what the file browser uses. This follows
the changes in rB01df48a98394, which also make the region more
"standard."
Previously we used a `CellValue` class to hold the data for a cell,
and called a function to fill it whenever necessary. This is an
unnecessary complication when we have virtual generic arrays
and most data is already easily accessible that way anyway.
This patch removes `CellValue` and uses `fn::GVArray` to provide
access to data instead.
In the future, if rows have different types within a single column,
we can use a `GVArray` of `blender::Any` to interface with the drawing.
Along with that, the use of virtual arrays made it easy to do a
few other cleanups:
- Use selection domain interpolations from rB5841f8656d95
for the mesh selection filter.
- Change the row filter to only calculate for necessary indices.

This patch removes a bunch of specific code for drawing the spreadsheet
data set region, which was an overly specific solution for a generic UI.
Nowadays, the UI tree view API used for asset browser catalogs is a much
better way to implement this behavior.
To make this possible, the tree view API is extended in a few ways.
Collapsibility can now be turned off, and whether an item should
be active is moved to a separate virtual function.
The only visual change is that the items are now drawn in a box,
just like the asset catalog.

The viewer node has been expanded to have a field input next to the
geometry input. When both are connected (by ctrl+shift clicking on a node)
the spreadsheet will show the evaluated field on the geometry.
The operator to link to the viewer has become a bit smarter. It automatically
detects if it should link to the geometry or field input. In the future some more
smartness could be added, such as automatically relinking the "right" geometry
when viewing a field.
Internally, there are two major changes:
* Refactor of what happens when ctrl+shift clicking on a node to link to
a viewer. The behavior of the geometry nodes viewer is a bit more complex
than that of the compositor viewers. The behavior in compositing nodes
should not have changed. Any change should be reported as a bug (and then
we can decide if it's worse than before or if it needs fixing).
* Evaluation, display and caching of fields in the spreadsheet editor.

Previously, a debug name had to be passed to all methods
that added a resource to the `ResourceScope`. The idea was
that this would make it easier to find certain bugs. In reality
I never found this to be useful, and it was mostly annoying.
The thing is, something that is in a resource scope never leaks
(unless the resource scope is not destructed of course).
Removing the name parameter makes the structure easier to use.
With this commit, curve objects support the geometry nodes modifier.
Curves objects now evaluate to `CurveEval` unless there was a previous
implicit conversion (tessellating modifiers, mesh modifiers, or the
settings in the curve "Geometry" panel). In the new code, curves are
only considered to be the wire edges-- any generated surface is a mesh
instead, stored in the evaluated geometry set.
The consolidation of concepts mentioned above allows remove a lot of
code that had to do with maintaining the `DispList` type temporarily
for modifiers and rendering. Instead, render engines see a separate
object for the mesh from the mesh geometry component, and when the
curve object evaluates to a curve, the `CurveEval` is always used for
drawing wire edges.
However, currently the `DispList` type is still maintained and used as
an intermediate step in implicit mesh conversion. In the future, more
uses of it could be changed to use `CurveEval` and `Mesh` instead.
This is mostly not changed behavior, it is just a formalization of
existing logic after recent fixes for 2.8 versions last year and two
years ago. Also, in the future more functionality can be converted
to nodes, removing cases of implicit conversions. For more discussion
on that topic, see T89676.
The `use_fill_deform` option is removed. It has not worked properly
since 2.62, and the choice for filling a curve before or after
deformation will work much better and be clearer with a node system.
Applying the geometry nodes modifier to generate a curve is not
implemented with this commit, so applying the modifier won't work
at all. This is a separate technical challenge, and should be solved
in a separate step.

This adds a viewer node similar to the one in the compositor.
The icon in the headers of nodes is removed because it served
the same purpose and is not necessary anymore.
Node outputs can be connected to the active viewer using
ctrl+shift+LMB, just like in the compositor. Right now this collides
with the shortcut used in the node wrangler addon, which will
be changed separately.
As of now, the viewed geometry is only visible in the spreadsheet.
Viewport visualization will be added separately.
There are a couple of benefits of using a viewer node compared
to the old approach with the icon in the node header:
* Better support for nodes that have more than one geometry output.
* It's more consistent with the compositor.
* If attributes become decoupled from geometry in the future,
the viewer can have a separate input for the attribute to visualize.
* The viewer node could potentially have visualization settings.
* Allows to keep "visualization points" around by having multiple
viewer nodes.
* Less visual clutter in node headers.

This patch adds a left aligned sidebar to the spreadsheet editor. This
Sidebar can be used to navigate the geometry component types and
attribute domains. It also provides a quick overview of domain sizes.
It replaces the two dropdowns in the regions header.
Next step will be to add the domain cycling shortcut
using the CTRL + mouse wheel.

This patch adds support for filtering rows based on rules and values.
Filters will work for any attribute data source, they are a property
of the spreadsheet rather than of the attribute system. The properties
displayed in the row filter can depend on data type of the currently
visible column with that name. If the name is no longer visible, the
row filter filter is grayed out, but it will remember the value until
a column with its name is visible again.
Note: The comments in `screen.c` combined with tagging the sidebar
for redraw after the main region point to a lack of understanding
or technical debt, that is a point to improve in the future.
**Future Improvements**

This introduces a context path to the spreadsheet editor, which contains
information about what data is shown in the spreadsheet. The context
path (breadcrumbs) can reference a specific node in a node group
hierarchy. During object evaluation, the geometry nodes modifier checks
what data is currently requested by visible spreadsheets and stores
the corresponding geometry sets separately for later access.
The context path can be updated by the user explicitely, by clicking
on the new icon in the header of nodes. Under some circumstances,
the context path is updated automatically based on Blender's context.
This patch also consolidates the "Node" and "Final" object evaluation
mode to just "Evaluated". Based on the current context path, either
the final geometry set of an object will be displayed, or the data at
a specific node.
The new preview icon in geometry nodes now behaves more like
a toggle. It can be clicked again to clear the context path in an
open spreadsheet editor.
Previously, only an object could be pinned in the spreadsheet editor.
Now it is possible to pin the entire context path. That allows two
different spreadsheets to display geometry data from two different
nodes.
The breadcrumbs in the spreadsheet header can be collapsed by
clicking on the arrow icons. It's not ideal but works well for now.
This might be changed again, if we get a data set region on the left.

A `DataSource` provides columns for the spreadsheet to display.
Every column has a SpreadsheetColumnID as identifier. Columns
are not generated eagerly anymore, instead the main spreadsheet
code can request a column from a data source with an column
identifier. The column identifiers can be stored in DNA and allow us
to store persistent data per column.
On the user level the only thing that changes is that columns are
not shown in alphabetical order anymore. Instead, new columns
are always added on the left. The behavior can be changed,
however I'd prefer not to automate this too much currently. I think
we should just add operators to hide/reorder/resize columns soonish.

This is a refactor and no functional changes are expected.
The goal is to make it simpler to add other data sources without having
to repeat the drawing code everywhere. Also, having the `CellValue` class
allows us to implement filtering and sorting in a more generic way.
This implements the status bar as footer region in the
spreadsheet editor.
It shows the total number of rows and columns as well
as how many rows are actually visible (based on the filter).
The implementation stores the stats in a runtime struct during
drawing and the status bar reads from that struct.

This implements the MVP for the new spreadsheet editor (T85879). The functionality
is still very limited, but it proved to be useful already. A more complete picture
of where we want to go with the new editor can be found in T86279.
Supported features:
* Show point attributes of evaluated meshes (no original data, no other domains,
no other geometry types, yet). Since only meshes are supported right now, the
output of the Point Distribute is not shown, because it is a point cloud.
* Only show data for selected vertices when the mesh is in edit mode.
Different parts of Blender keep track of selection state and original-indices with
varying degrees of success. Therefore, when the selected-only filter is used, the
result might be a bit confusing when using some modifiers or nodes. This will
be improved in the future.
* All data is readonly. Since only evaluated data is displayed currently, it has to
be readonly. However, this is not an inherent limitation of the spreadsheet editor.
In the future editable data will be displayed as well.
Some boilerplate code for the new editor has been committed before in
rB9cb5f0a2282a7a84f7f8636b43a32bdc04b51cd5.
It would be good to let the spreadsheet editor mature for a couple of weeks as part
of the geometry nodes project. Then other modules are invited to show their own data
in the new editor!
