Asset Browser Crash(2) #100159

System Information
Operating system: Win10 x64
Graphics card: rx460 2gb

Blender Version
Broken: (example: 3.2.1 , a2d59b2dac, master, 2022-07-05)
Worked: (3.0.0, f1cca30557, master, 2021-12-02 18:35)

The program closes after selecting the item (User library) in the browser, approximately this happens at the stage of checking / loading assets.
And also when marking new assets!

you need to make or add an existing, custom asset on version 3.0.0, and open it in the browser asset window version 3.2.1
I will not attach the blend file, because this problem also works on the standard window after a reset. There may be an error in the asset browser, but at the same time it works fine on version 3.0.0, I also can’t throw off the entire asset, it’s very large.

Thank to help!

I did a little test, I thought that this might be due to some kind of caching of these files that contain tags.
Checked for:

  • error when the path to the asset folder is in cyrillic font
  • caching error, all files in the assets folder containing marks are opened for editing normally, and while the asset file is open, the browser works! But after including the custom asset in the default "New File", crash again!

That is, the error occurs on the standard settings of the new "New File", versions 3+

Damn it! After closing the 3.0 program, I tried again to make sure, this time the asset browser opened, but without flagged files, the list was empty, before that I did the above, and checked the asset browser in version 3.0, it opened. Now it opens on version 3.2.1, but without assets.

In fact, after repeating the manipulations, everything came back...

I made a new asset for testing, I can throw a small assembly here.

It seems that this is a matter of compatibility, installed version of .exe, .steam, portable.

How to properly check? Or try my files.Tests.7z

Reproduction steps are not very clear here, can you list the steps needed to reproduce the issue as simple as possible?
I am also not sure what this file is supposed to represent, but it seems rather big, can you make a much smaller file for easier reproduction?

Just select "Custom Asset" in the Asset Browser window. But first it must be assigned. There are two folders in the archive, the client I use is 3.2.1 and the asset folder that needs to be installed in this role.
The file has been cropped.

Oh... I don't understand, today everything works fine, with the same file, didn't change anything =(

Also an interesting situation, marked new objects, resaved the file, and the asset is empty.

Damn, I don’t understand what’s going on there, check these questions on your PC, maybe I have some kind of incompatibility between the settings, there are new problems with object labels, I don’t understand, I’m tired =(Tests.7z

Just select "Custom Asset" in the Asset Browser window. But first you need to assign a folder. In the archive, I posted two folders, the client I use is 3.2.1 and the asset folder that needs to be installed in this role.
You know, but let's wait, I still want to check one more option, perhaps an error due to copy overload. There are duplicate objects in the asset.
Because when I cleaned the file and did everything in a new way, it began to work fine, it seems =)
One question, how does it all work then on version 3.0.0....?

Since everything works fine in the cropped version, you can download the first archive and check what the problem is. This might be faster than me redoing the feature markers.

Sorry, I still think the steps are not very clear and the reproduction file is rather big (649 MB) to debug properly.
How can one recreate your reproduction file from scratch? Or does it only happen with that file?
Please try to list the steps in details, starting from the startup file if possible.

Please open Blender's installation directory and double click on the blender_debug_gpu.cmd. This will start Blender in debug mode and create log files. Try to reproduce the error again. Once it crashes or you close Blender manually the Windows Explorer should open and show you up to two files, a debug log and the system information. Add them to your bug report by clicking on the upload button as shown in the screenshot below or via drag and drop. Please also upload the crash log located in C:\Users\[your username]\AppData\Local\Temp\[project name].crash.txt (or simply type %TEMP% into the path bar of the Windows Explorer).2019_12_04_upload_icon_developer_blender_org.png

I am just pasting the relevant parts from the crash log for other traigers and developers, and to make indexing easier.
But I don't need something from you for the moment, sorry for the confusion.

Call stack is identical as in your previous crash report: #98946 (Crash choice asset library)
Both appears to be same issue. So I'll merge this report in #98946
