"file" and "edit" menu missing #101024

Closed
opened 2022-09-13 05:01:03 +02:00 by Sarah Smith · 15 comments

System Information
Operating system: linux ubuntu 22.04
Graphics card: geforce GT 540M (nvidia proprietary driver), resolution 1366 x 768 on laptop screen

Blender Version
Broken: 3.3 LTS(official download archive on blender website)

Short description of error

The "file" and "edit" menu is missing. When I right click on top of the blender window and choose "headers" -> "show menus", the "file" and "edit" menu appears. But when closing and reopening blender, the "file" and "edit" menu is gone again.
So I need to do this each time I run blender to show the menu.

(Please note all other menus are present, only the "file" and "edit" menu is not)

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

  1. Open blender
  2. See there is no "file" and "edit" menu

I seem to be having some trouble with Blender, I usually try to get on blender and Import a Model to help work on Rigging and watching tutorials as well, but yesterday and today, Blenders Logo, File. And some Letters from Render Were seemed to be either missing or was out of bounds of the app which was strange, I even tried restarted the App and my Computer, but nothing happened, I hope this reaches y'all hope y'all can ~take a look at this.

I suspect you're experiencing same issue as in #100141 (Regression: Right aligned header)
Can you confirm?

Hello

No, my issue is a completely different one. In the video on the issue you write #100141 (Regression: Right aligned header) the menu "file" is clearly present. In my Blender the "file" menu is not present at all when you first start it.

I can only make the "file" menu appear again by doing: When I right click on top of the blender window and choose "header" -> "show menus", the "file" menu appears.
But when I close and re-open Blender, the "file" menu is gone again.

I didn't test the issue in #100141 (Regression: Right aligned header) because it's something completely different. It are 2 different issues not related to each other according to me. I'm talking about the "file" menu in the top bar only.

update: I also run Blender 3.3 LTS on windows 10 (different PC) and the issue seems not to exist in the windows version. I think it's maybe a Linux-only problem.
I can't verify 100% because my Linux laptop (on which the issue appears) is not running windows. But Blender 3.3 LTS on Ubuntu vs on window 10 (on different PCs) are certainly behaving differently considering the "file" menu (not present on Ubuntu, but always present on Windows)

thanks

Update: since I now saw the "edit" menu is missing too, maybe it's the same as #100141 because the menus dissapear at the left?
I'm a blender beginner and can't tell more about this issue because I'don't have more knowledge about blender UI.
I hope a developer can look at it!

Thx

Hi, could you share screenshot of the default screen display when blender is open?

Here is a screenshot before enabling "show menus" and after.

"before" (state after fresh Blender start):

before.png

"after" (state after fresh Blender start with "show menus" enabled manually. This has to be done each time Blender starts again or I have the "before" screen. So the "show menus" state is not remembered if you close Blender. Blender returns to "before" state when closed and re-opened) :

after.png

My screen has resolution 1366 x 768 on a geforce GT 540M (nvidia proprietary driver)

Is this normal behavior on a small screen with 1366 x 768 resolution? I would expect the "show menus" should be enabled when closing and re-opening blender if you enabled it the previous time you ran blender.

This only works when Blender keeps running.
The next time I run Blender, "file" and "edit" menu are gone again so I need to repeat the "show menus" step each time I run Blender :(
