freezing crashes when rendering or initializing render #103048

System Information
Operating system: Windows 10 64-bit
Graphics card: Geforce 3060 mobile note: graphics driver was updated inbwetween occurances. current graphics driver version 527.56 studio.

Blender Version
Broken: 3.4 release
Worked: not relevant

Short description of error
random freezing crashes. notes: system is running just fine. vram consumption was below full capacity (not out of memory issue).

case 1: monitored after an hour of animating. crashed mid render after a couple of frames of a cycles render.
case 2: left blender running in the background for a couple hours. after refocus and content changes, it crashed initializing a cycles render. at this point i noticed a memory wipe in the task manager. usual memory footprint of the file is 2.5 GB. ~400 MB were left and it idled in "not-respoding" mode. might be related, but it might just be that it doesn't even crash correctly.

xtra note: i noticed loss/corruption of persistant data over time in a prior blender version creating rendering artifacts. kept it together tho. that might be related and it's now broken. great.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
no exact steps to reproduce. it's random unstableness. test file can't be provided. the particular file can't be provided due to nature of the content, either. sry
crashlog does not exist either. sry. or obviously cause it doesn't crash correct.

I want to understand what happens exactly, you say that it "freezing crashes", does that mean it freezes for some time then crashes at the end?

Please open Blender's installation directory and double click on the blender_debug_gpu.cmd. This will start Blender in debug mode and create log files. Try to reproduce the error again. Once it crashes or you close Blender manually the Windows Explorer should open and show you up to two files, a debug log and the system information. Add them to your bug report by clicking on the upload button as shown in the screenshot below or via drag and drop. Please also upload the crash log located in C:\Users\[your username]\AppData\Local\Temp\[project name].crash.txt (or simply type %TEMP% into the path bar of the Windows Explorer).2019_12_04_upload_icon_developer_blender_org.png

well... it crashes. but does not terminate the process is my educated guess. it looks like a freeze but the process does not run any cpu cycles, like the typical 1 core loop percentage in taskmanager, and has lost the runtime memory at this point.

and... okay. will try to get a log with the debug cli. the crashlog in the temp folder was not generated. i noted that.

in debug it appeared as a freeze. memory stayed intact. i froze once rendering in pose mode. i reproduced it predictably once. did not occur after. no clue, wtf it's doing wrong.

i don't get any temp crash log. neither does it show anything infomative in the debug log.

issue might have some more information and a sample file at https://developer.blender.org/T103101 pretty sure it's the same.

Hi, since #103101 has been fixed already, could you check if crash/freeze is resolved for you in 3.5? https://builder.blender.org/download/daily/

yo. has been fixed in 3.4.1. i think it was the python error in the image result viewer.

have not tried any 3.5, really yet, test compile aside. pre sure it's good. :)
