Moving a particular point in editing curves mode moves the origin of a child. Shouldn't it be not moving the child object but geometry inside if it has a curve modifier? And If I create only a child without any modifiers it is still the same situation. Looks like there is something wrong. I should have the ability to edit a curve without affecting a child.

This is caused by a combination of two things:

So to set this up properly (or to correct the setup in the file), you can do the following

  • select BezierCurve.008
  • disable Path Animation (Cylinder.007 will now hop to a different place because of the parent inverse etc., we will correct that next)
  • select Cylinder.007
  • Object > Parent > Clear Parent Inverse (Cylinder.007 will now hop to another different place because it still has some transform, we will correct that next)
  • Object > Clear > Location

Now we have a parent relationship without transforms or settings messing with the behavior of the curve modifier

  • you can still move the whole curve object and the cylinder moves along
  • you can move any curve point in editmode (including first and last) with expected behavior

Parent Inverse and Path Animation are sometimes a bit hard to grasp, still think there is no bug here, will close.
(but of course feel free to comment again if issues persist)

This is caused by a combination of two things: - the curve has `Path Animation` turned ON (see https://docs.blender.org/manual/en/3.5/modeling/curves/properties/path_animation.html) - parent relationship was set up with a parent inverse (see https://docs.blender.org/manual/en/3.5/scene_layout/object/editing/parent.html#parent-inverse) So to set this up properly (or to correct the setup in the file), you can do the following - select `BezierCurve.008` - disable `Path Animation` (`Cylinder.007` will now hop to a different place because of the parent inverse etc., we will correct that next) - select `Cylinder.007` - `Object` > `Parent` > `Clear Parent Inverse` (`Cylinder.007` will now hop to another different place because it still has some transform, we will correct that next) - `Object` > `Clear` > `Location` Now we have a parent relationship without transforms or settings messing with the behavior of the curve modifier - you can still move the whole curve object and the cylinder moves along - you can move any curve point in editmode (including first and last) with expected behavior [bug 19 corrected.blend](https://archive.blender.org/developer/F14175238/bug_19_corrected.blend) Parent Inverse and Path Animation are sometimes a bit hard to grasp, still think there is no bug here, will close. May the algorithm should be considered as perplexing and not user-friendly and changed? May you pass it to the person who is in charge of user-friendly things?
