Operational system
Windows 10 Home 19045.2486
Video card: RTX 2060
RAM memory: 16 GB
Processor: Ryzen 5 3500X

This problem is occurring in new versions of blender, while in previous versions it worked.

When we place more than one Node that contains a subsurface, the subsurface simply doesn't work anymore.

To visualize this problem is simple, take a lower version or the 3.1.1 version itself and test my .blend file. Then take a current version, do the same thing, and you will notice this big difference

The first photo is from version 3.1.1 and the second photo is from blender 3.4.1

Looks like a variation of the same bug described in #100125
Also reported in #100904.

This is caused by the ShaderToRGB Node.

In the description of 80859a6cb2, it's stated that:

  • ShaderToRGB node will remove any SSR and SSS from a shader.

It also has been documented in the release notes.

Materials using Shader-To-RGB nodes now never receive Screen Space Reflections or Sub-Surface Scattering effects even if the BSDFs are not connected to the Shader-To-RGB nodes

It was a necessary change, to improve and support other features :\
