Regression: GPU Subdivision: EEVEE doesn't refresh viewport correctly with Armature modifier #105749

Broken: version: 3.3LTS, master
Worked: 3.2.2

Short description of error
GPU Subdivision doestn't refresh viewport correctly an object when Armature and Subdivision Surface Modifiers are used.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

  1. Start Blender.
  2. Add Armature object
  3. Switch to "Shading" workspace.
  4. Select the Cube and add armature modifier then Subdivision Surface Modifier.
  5. Switch to Properties Editor to "Modifier Properties"
  6. Add armature in armature modifier's object property.
  7. Switch between object-edit mode
    It works fine when "GPU Subdivion option" is turned OFF (Prefrences > Viewport > Subdivision > GPU Subdivision)

I added "BeforeGPUSubDBug.blend". You can reproduce this issue by loading the blend file and doing step 7)

Thank you for verifing. What do you use the driver version?

I tried install latest studio driver (528.49) and verified it. It looks fine first, but hit [Tab] key twice to enter and leave Edit Mode, it works wrong too...

  • At 528.49 driver, the issue is happend without adding any material slots.
  • I found a workaround...enabling Edit Mode display option in Armature Modifier's panel

From BeforeGPUSubDBug.blend, I can't reproduce this with material slot panel but I can reproduce with switching in and out of edit mode (Windows 10/RX 570).

I can confirm when switched between modes.
Issue is only reproducible if armature is added to object property of Armature modifier in EEVEE
(Steps updated in description)

I don't see the why this should be considered as a high priority, so lowering the priority.

  • Work around is available
  • Blender 3.2 didn't had GPU subdivision if I am not mistaken.
