System Information
Operating system: Windows-10-10.0.22621-SP0 64 Bits
Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 Laptop GPU/PCIe/SSE2 NVIDIA Corporation 4.5.0 NVIDIA 531.29

Blender Version
Broken: version: 3.3.3, branch: master, commit date: 2023-01-17 08:40, hash: rB8d94aeb604fa
Broken: version: 3.6.0 Alpha, branch: main, commit date: 2023-03-20 00:12, hash: 7cda559d7c1b

Short description of error
There is no error, the user tooltips on hovering over a button just don't display the shortcuts if the spacebar action is set to Search using the handy GUI at the top of the keymap:

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

  1. Open Blender and go to the Preferences (Edit -> Preferences)
  2. Enable User Tooltips in Interface, if it isn't already on
  3. Go to Keymap, and make sure you are using the standard preset (at the top, default is called Blender)
  4. Make sure the Spacebar action is set to Play (Tools works too). If you now hover over a tool (e.g. in the Context Menu on the left), note that a shortcut is being displayed

  5. Now go back to the Keymap and change the Spacebar Action to Search. If you now hover over a tool, the shorcut won't be displayed anymore. Note that User Tooltips in the Interface should still be on

  6. If you set the Spacebar Action to Play again, but change the Search Menu shortcut manually to Spacebar (and set the Play Animation to something else, like Shift + Spacebar), the tooltip displays the shortcut once again

Hi, thanks for the report. This is not a bug as said in #72982

This is not a bug. If there is no key shortcut for opening the tools menu, there is no key shortcut for activating the tool and so nothing to display.
It could display shortcuts for the operator associated with the tool, but that's not exactly the same and outside the scope of the bug tracker in any case.

This is pretty much a bug... with spacebar set as play

See the second key 'D'
What the input 'D' has to do with spacebar makes no sense.

This really shouldn't be closed. It is very confusing to users.
