Texture Painting in Sculpt mode (Experimental) behaves better here. It does not "leave" islands and does not have the artifacts show here on thin gaps.

If it isn't introduced recently I doubt that we want to spent time on fixing this specific case. The algorithm has been designed many years ago and hasn't been updated with the flexibility that current users want it to be. So there will always be some edge cases that doesn't work. Fixing this might introduce others along the way.

If someone is up for it and want to give it a try I welcome them. The new texture painting is related to the paint mode design and requires a developer implementing the design. In the near future I wouldn't be able to work on it due to other priorities.

So a known issue might be the best for now?

The texture painting part is fine. paint mode reimplements a workflow/UI around the tools. But as for users, it isn't likely that much work will be spent this year on texture painting and implementing the paint mode design.
