Broken: 2.91.0
Worked: 2.90.1
This broke with

2.90.1: no update in other editors during modal stroke, update other editors after stroke ends (good)
2.91.0: no update in same editor (bad)
Short description of error
The option "View -> Update Automatically" in the Image Editor doesn't seem to work as expected. The tooltip says it should prevent other editors from redrawing interactively, but if you turn it off, you can observe the following:
Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Compare this to the "Update Automatically" option of the UV Editor, which does work as expected (transforming UVs does not automatically update the 3D Viewport)
Turning off "Update Automatically" in Image Editor suspends drawing in that editorto Turning off "Update Automatically" in Image Editor breaks painting in that editorCan confirm, will check.

Turning off "Update Automatically" in Image Editor breaks painting in that editorto Regression: Turning off "Update Automatically" in Image Editor breaks painting in that editorThis issue will require some research to see how we can handle the desired behavior, as this has been broken for some time.
I only found this bug because I was updating the documentation, not because I needed the feature. If it has been broken for so long without someone complaining, maybe that means it's used so little that it might as well be removed - I'll leave it up to you.
