Baking an action with Overwrite Current Action results in stacking keyframes #107614

System Information
Operating system:
Graphics card:

Blender Version
Broken: 3.4 up to 3.5.1
Worked: 3.3

Short description of error
When baking an action using Overwrite Current Action the frames where keys we set get stacking keyframe points.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Based on the default startup.
Add an action to your object or armature.
Add a key frame on the first frame.
Bake the action with Overwrite Current Action enabled.
With Auto Keyframe turned and being on the first frame, drag your object/bone around.

If you check the graph editor you will see the baked curves have two keyframe points on the first frame.

This is more apparent when doing something similar with an action that was in Additive blending mode before the baking process. The provided blender file is set up so that to see the bug you only need to bake the action with Overwrite Current Action enabled.

If you check the graph editor you will see the baked curves have two keyframe points on the first frame.

I can't reproduce the problem, or I didn't understand correctly.

  • I opened the attached file.
  • went to Pose > Animation > Bake Action
  • Enabled Ovewrite Current Action
  • And I checked the first and last points of the F-curve

But I saw nothing of "keyframe stacking".

Please try the latest daily build: https://builder.blender.org/download/

Go to File → Defaults → Load Factory Settings and then load your file to see if you still can reproduce this issue.
If the problem persists, please give us more clear instructions on how to reproduce it from scratch.

This could be a duplicate of #106708, which is indeed fixed in the daily builds.

Thank you for the reply. I got the latest 3.5.1 version from the link you provided and followed the steps to load the factory settings.
The bug persists so I'm adding a recording of the issue. Hopefully it is more understandable on video.

I discovered the bug because when I work with additive actions I always key the whole rig on the first frame and it kept messing up the first pose after baking down the action.

edit: @dr.sybren yes that looks like the issue I am having. Missed those when checking for duplicate bug reports. But if this got fixed I must have made a wrong turn somewhere when getting the daily build.

Yup, that looks exactly like the bug I fixed. Give the 3.6.0 alpha daily build a try (I don't think this has been back-ported to the 3.5 branch yet): https://builder.blender.org/download/daily/

I can confirm that the bug occurs in 3.5, but it doesn't occur in 3.6 so it's seems fixed already.
Unfortunately 3.5 is frozen and no longer getting bug fixes (#106258)
So closing
