System Information
Operating system: Linux (Pop-os)
Graphics card: nvidia gtx 1050
Blender Version
Broken: 4.1.1; blender-v4.1-release (Steam, 24-04-05, hash:e1743a0317bc) and under (3.x and 4.x (i've got the issue from a long time ago).
Short description of error
Doing certain thing can cause my double screen to freeze / killing my graphics driver (i don't find any graphic error, but i must reinstall the driver to fix my double screen). i cannot fix it by rebooting my compute
How to reproduce the error
I didn't find an exact pattern to reproduce the error, working sometime, not working another time, even by doing the step... It can work by moving a areas, pressing some button (like bake button, but can be also play button), by changing tabs (from Layout to Shading as instance).
What is double screen? Like 2 monitor setup? Can you click on Help > Save System Info and upload saved file?
2 monitor setup yes. However I don't have any file "affected" by that, its just happening some time, with the factory settings.
Technically there is newer GPU driver, but yours is fairly recent. I see, that @Jeroen-Bakker has access to GTX 1060 on PopOS, so maybe he can check, but if this is killing the GPU driver itself, probably won't be Blender bug anyway.
Can you perhaps send output of
dmesg
after this happens?Probably an issue on the system itself, without more information I cannot do anything about it. I would suggest to test working with a single monitor, check OS logging for a pattern. Not sure, but are both monitors physically hooked up to the same GPU?

Hey, sorry for the wait, I've been pretty busy lately.
So, I found that unplugging the second monitor, waiting a few minutes, and then plugging it back in fixes the problem temporarily. I've noticed it usually freezes the second monitor when loading shaders in Eevee. I'll try to record it with my phone when I get a chance.
I'm using a laptop, and the laptop screen works perfectly fine. The second monitor is connected with an HDMI cable. I've tried changing the cable multiple times and using different screens, but the same issue keeps happening.
Also, I'm not familiar with
dmesg
, and I haven't heard of OS logging before, but I'll look into it as soon as I can.Thanks. BTW, Wayland compositor used here? Maybe related: #123096
I just checked if i have it, and nop, i'm using x11. I also tried to reproduce the same error as #123096 but: unless its because i'm using Blender 4.1.1, it won't work.
I recorded a video where i just play with my usual setup node, and it freeze a lot when playing with value like i said before.
And for the os logging, i checker in /var/log/syslog,syslog.1 but nothing :/
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uIqxM4HzvuI (i have to upload the video to youtube cause i've got some trouble with uploading it here)
edit The link to the video wasn't correct, idk were i messed up tbh but, now it should work
I've found some on some forum that the problem is the same. I don't know if its because of the same issue or anything, i'll try to setup my gpu to performence mode as told in the forum, and i'll give feedback.

edit
I've tried, so i went in setting > power > Performance = True. but that didn't worked
another edit lol
i've tried on multiple screen, the one in the video is a 720p screen with a 8k hdmi cable (i've tried some classic hdmi cable), and i tried with a full hd screen with a classic hdmi cable too. So the issue is for sure not based on the cable or the monitor...
@neoluigimario2008 I got back to this report, is that link to YT video correct? Also are you using notebook? Does this still happen for you?
From these comments this sounds like issue in nvidia driver, so I am not sure if we would be able to resolve this issue here. At least we could find and document root cause...
It really does sound like its the problem here- I updated the video link btw TvT (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uIqxM4HzvuI)
From stuff i saw online i did try to change my driver version but it changed nothing from memori... Now i have reinstalled Pop_OS but i didn't have the time to test blender with a second screen for the moment, idk if it fixed itself or not
Thanks for update. From the video, it looks like OS or driver issue. if you type
sudo dmesg
to console, it should provide more details about what happened.PopOS seems to use stock nvidia drivers, so reporting on nvidia forum may be more useful, assuming this was driver crash.

Oh damn, I don't really had the time to search more about this issue... I cannot use my laptop as it died recently... I didn't saw any freeze using a portable version I do remember, but a lot of crashes (was not a stable version so it's okay).
And the issue doesn't really seem common so I think it's just my own problem.
When I get the luck to test it with an another computer (with the same os), I'll try to dig deeper into it. Maybe the build I was using was bad(?), I do remembered I used the pop_shop's one at first, but like I said the portable build looked better.
From the feedback, I think I can only agree with that, but I don't get why it do it only with blender (or maybe with other software, but I never experienced that, and it seem that no one (or a really small amount) of people did too).
(and I don't know if there an on hold or a similar tag, but I think it would be smart to put it, as I need another computer to test and provide more feedback. I know I'm kinda late but I'm trying my best)
Not sure why the laptop died, but given, that HW has failed, I would not be surprised, if Blender will run just fine with new HW.
Will close this report for now, if you will have any similar issues, please open new report and reference this one.
