Blender Version
Broken: version: 4.2.0 Beta, branch: blender-v4.2-release, commit date: 2024-06-28 19:02, hash:
db5cc087141a
Worked: 4.0.2
Short description of error
Just switching to EEVEE makes Blender get stuck in a cycle of beachballs on my (admittedly old) Mac.
Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
A beachball appears. After about 20 seconds, the objects in the viewport go black, and the beachball keeps spinning. Eventually, the scene info area shows the message:
The beachball keeps spinning intermittently and Blender never becomes responsive.
My system specs:
Model Identifier: iMac15,1
Processor Name: Quad-Core Intel Core i7
Processor Speed: 4 GHz
Number of Processors: 1
Total Number of Cores: 4
L2 Cache (per Core): 256 KB
L3 Cache: 8 MB
Hyper-Threading Technology: Enabled
Memory: 16 GB
System Firmware Version: 478.0.0.0.0
SMC Version (system): 2.23f11
The shadow buffer error should be fixed already.
As for the render issue if might be related to #123052, #122361 or #122837.
If you can still reproduce the shadow buffer error, then please reopen.
Just an additional note, although Joe already mentioned it. This seems like a system of late 2014. Some issues we might not be able to reproduce and fix as we don't have the hardware and the GPU drivers are not updated for a long time. I hope you understand that we do our best to keep as much system working, but sometimes it doesn't outweigh the effort it takes.
I totally understand, and I appreciate that Blender has supported my system this far!
