Hi, thanks for the report. Volume is invisible for me instead of dark shade.

Very nice! It's another issue I found but I can't reproduce properly.
The solution I find useful is to switch to cycle and back to eevee.
Would you be able to solve it using this method?

I also want to report this infinitely invisible render issue in eevee, but I can't reproduce it reliably.
I guess it's actually compilation, despite the fact it will likely take forever.
If you find any useful information to report this issue, please let me know, I think it's very important.

Actually #122454 was closed without an actual fix

Volume is invisible for me instead of dark shade.

Strange, Now volume sometimes render dark in perspective view as well 👀

I stumble on it while trying to reproduce dark volume.
- Clear GLCache and factory reset (just to be sure)
- Switch to material preview or viewport render BEFORE adding volume shader to cube

If I connect the shader in solid view first, it renders fine. I tried with shader subprocesses at 2 and now got black volume.
Pretty much hit or miss. Sometime it works fine in viewport but invisible when render animation.

this time even going to Cycle and switch back to Eevee, it doesn't recover immediately the rendering

Unfortunately, doesn't seem to be fixed in latest main.

Strange... it is black when using your file but not when created from scratch, nor when appending your cube to a fresh start up default.

found the culprit... it is sun light. There are few issues with current EEVEE sun in ortho.
