Operating system: Windows 11 Home
Graphics card: Intel UHD Graphics 770

Broken: blender-4.2.0-windows-x64.msi; blender-4.2.0-windows-x64.msix; blender-4.2.0-windows-x64.zip
Worked: Blender 4.2.0.0 installed from Microsoft Store

  1. Windows Installers - not running
Windows Installer (blender-4.2.0-windows-x64.msi) is not opening. Run the file and nothing happens.
The other installer (blender-4.2.0-windows-x64.msix) pops up an error code 0x800B010A with the following message: "No certificate chain could be built to a trusted root authority from the cert that was used to sign the app package."

  2. Portable version - no running
EXE files for Portable versions (both blender.exe and blender-launcher.exe) are not opening. Running and nothing happens.

  3. Microsoft Store
Blender 4.2.0.0 installed from Microsoft Store is running OK, causing no problem.

"No certificate chain could be built to a trusted root authority from the cert that was used to sign the app package."

Hi, thanks for the report. I think this is due to expired certificate, not entirely sure... but it's a known problem.
Re executable not working: Did you open it via desktop shortcut? Does it happen if you launch from blender-launcher.exe or blender_factory_startup.cmd?

I downloaded 4.2 today. The installation of blender 4.2 in windows 11 does not start. Nothing happens too with blender.exe, blender -launcher.exe. It starts with blender_factory_startup,
I have an i9, 128 RAM, nVidia rtx A4000

@LazyDodo hi, any idea why this is failing with executables?

  1. No idea, this could be diagnosed by running msiexec /i blender-4.2.0-windows-x64.msi /l* blender.log and looking at the generated blender.log

2+3. The store version will use a sandboxed profile folder, I'm guessing something is wrong in the profile folder but i can't say i have any ideas what it could be, if the user could zip up their blender profile folder, we could take a look

Last night I tried the installation in another office, with another PC, still with Windows 11. A security warning appeared "Windows has blocked the installation because it is deemed unsafe". I found the option to let it install anyway, and the installation completed as usual. On the first PC the warning did not appear, so the cause was not understood, which seems to depend on the Windows Defender.

Think we can close the report then?
