To my surprise today I noticed this actually doesn't happen every time. It probably has something to do with the hard drives going to power safe then. Just a hypothesis though.

Also tried to prevent the computer to go to sleep when the display goes to sleep, but this does not change the error.
Did not occur in Blender 2.8, (I think it started with 2.81) for a short while it seemed that 2.81a fixed this issue, but I'm guessing I have the same as Jarkko, sometimes the crash does not occur.

If of any help I can post the crash report.

Best regards,
Ludo

Hello, a quick update.

Blender 2.82.6 does not seem to have the 'crash on wake-up' issue. Worked for several days with Blender 2.82.6 open and, until now, I did not have any wake-up crashes.

Thanks for reading !

Best regards,
Ludo

@Semperdux Try with 2.82 release, also post a screenshot of power saver preferences.

I just realized this doesn’t happen with my other iMac. Still keeps happening on my iMac Pro at work. I will check out power saver preferences and test the new 2.82 today.

Hello,

For now with Blender 2.82 release I did not had any crashes on wake up. This was also true with the Beta version.
Included screenshot of the power saving settings.

Thanks and kindest regards,

I can second that 2.82 is fixing this issue. I haven’t got a single crash on wake up since I installed the update few days ago

I came here looking for an issue describing this exact case.

I too can consistently let Blender crash by putting my MacBook to sleep. This happens because my MB is powered through the USB-C cable from my monitor, so when the monitor goes to sleep, or is turned off, the MB goes to battery power, and sleeps soon thereafter.

Either this is not solved yet (cc @brecht) or mine has a different underlying cause (but the same outcome).

It's quite an unfortunate issue, as I've lost hours of work due to forgetting to manually save and automatically saving not triggering when I move away from my Mac while keeping Blender in edit mode.

I've had this happen since 2.79, and am now running 2.83.3 (2.83.3 2020-07-22)

I've attached the crash log details.

@JeanMertz, please create a new bug report, we don't reopen old reports.

Also check if any add-ons are interfering. Auto-save not working is usually caused by add-ons.
