System Information
Operating system: Arch Linux, 5.7.2-arch1-1
Desktop environment: GNOME,gnome-shell 3.36.3-1 (also tried gnome-shell 3.36.2-1)
Graphics card: Intel HD Graphics 520, mesa 20.1.1-1 (also tried mesa 20.1.0-3)
Dedicated graphics card: AMD Radeon R5 M330

Blender Version
Broken: 2.83
Worked: 2.82a

Short description of error
After seconds of just moving the view and/or selecting/deselecting objects right after starting up Blender, it freezes, then the view starts flickering between 2-3 frames as I move the mouse, then the cursor image glitches out and GNOME freezes entirely, and the only way to get out of the situation other than a hard reboot is to switch to another tty and sudo killall -s SIGKILL blender gnome-shell then sudo systemctl restart gdm. Sometimes the entire system freezes and doesn't allow me to switch to a tty, which leaves no choice other than a hard reboot.

I noticed that this only happens with the integrated Intel GPU. I tried 2.82a again many times after this happened and it never did this.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

  • Launch Blender
  • Do anything for a little while
  • Blender freezes
  • Graphical glitches
  • System freezes

I had the same issue

Working version 2.82

I loaded a demo scene -The Junk Shop

In 2.83 I was just clicking on different lights turning off shadows
And suddenly my viewport lagged so much and then crashed

This happened for more than 5-6 times

I tried to reproduce the issue on a simple scene to make the bug report but I couldn’t reproduce it in a simple scene

I was using intel uhd 630
16gb ram

It worked perfectly fine in 2.82a

Another thing I noticed is when I switched the viewport to material mode or rendered view

It was considerably slow in 2.83 compared to 2.82a

And crahsed 2 times in 2.83

Happens with 2.90 (c7b03fe9c0) too, although it took much longer to happen, 2~3 minutes maybe. I tried it twice with the same result.

Could you provide the system-info.txt generated in Help -> Save System Info?

I accidentally launched Blender using the Intel GPU, and this happened again, but this time I got this upon switching to tty3:

The log in /sys/class/drm/card0/error says No error state collected.

Seems like the bug has been already reported in the intel driver gitlab

Just to mention that I wasn't able to reproduce this issue, but I am on Mesa 20.0.8 (current default Ubuntu version).

Looking at reports on freedesktop tracker, this seems to be duplicate of #80458 (same GPU hang error code). Since later one is confirmed already, I will merge this.
