Blender makes Windows restart #78567

System Information
Operating system: Windows 10 Pro
Graphics card: nVidia GeForce GTX 1050, 2 Gb of memory GDDR5
Characteristics of my laptop: Dream Machine

Blender Version
Broken: 2.82, 2.9
Worked: no

Short description of error
When I open file with highpoly mesh (near 1 million faces or more) in Blender and I do not do anything in Blender some time (a minute or half of minute) - if I try do something in Blender after it - Blender stuck (Not Responding), after it appears this error:
DRIVER POWER STATE FAILURE
And laptop restarts.

I was surprised to know that it is caused by Blender, first time I did not know it's because of it, I was trying to get help:
Cyberforum topic (Russian)
Reinstalling Windows, installing drivers etc. But it did not give any results.

I figured out that this restarting problem is caused by Blender after a few experiments - I opened another high poly meshes, another files - the problem always was there. Also I opened the same high poly mesh in another 3D soft (ZBrush and Autodesk FBX Review) - it did not make my Windows restarts. Also, if I open low poly mesh, alike some simple box in Blender - it do not cause the problem. This problem appeared one week ago, before it I was working with high poly meshes in Blender with no problems. If I open high poly mesh in Blender and I work with it (I do something all the time) - it does not cause the problem. But I need export high poly mesh in FBX - when I do it - it takes some time, so, I do not do in Blender anything for some time waiting when Blender export FBX - after it Blender restart Windows. :)

Unfortunately, now I am forced to use another 3D soft, not Blender, but I like Blender so much.
Can you do something to resolve this problem please?

You've said that you already tried installing updated drivers, but this sounds like an issue with your graphics driver (or other drivers). Please try to install the most recent version for your Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 GPU, which can be downloaded here . Update the driver for your CPU's integrated GPU as well, should it have one. For an Intel CPU download it directly from Intel's website for the most recent driver version. Laptops often use OEM drivers by default and the vendor stops releasing updates for them after a while.

Thank you, Robert. But I already have installed all newest versions of all drivers. Also repair specialist checked all drivers on my computer and confirmed it's all up to date and correct. So, it's not because of drivers. As I told another 3D soft works properly.

Please open Blender, save the system information (Help > Save System Info) and upload them here by clicking on the upload icon or dragging and dropping the file.

Blender cannot crash the operating system on its own, there has to be an issue either within the operating system, hardware or driver. The error indicates and issue with a driver. This doesn't mean that there isn't a bug in Blender though, however it won't be the sole cause of the issue. Just because another 3D software doesn't cause the OS to crash doesn't have to mean anything, it simply doesn't trigger the condition in the driver that results in a crash.

@tssrkt My best guess would be that you have a sleep / hibernation / power saving option enabled. If you don't interact with your computer while the FBX export happens, this may result in sleep or hibernation being activated, which the computer doesn't properly awake from.

I would suggest you check the following options, to narrow down possible causes.

Check the Windows Event Viewer

  • Find the entry for the Driver Power State Failure and check if additional information are available, e.g. a particular driver that caused the issue.

Disable Sleep and Hibernation Settings

  • Open Windows' settings
  • Search for the Power and sleep settings
  • Set Sleep to Never
  • Click on Additional energy settings
  • Open the drop down for Show additional plans
  • Ensure Sleep and Hibernate are disabled

Reboot and check if this resolved the issue, revert the settings to original state if it doesn't

Difference between battery and mains operation

  • Check if there is a different behavior when the laptop is plugged into a power supply

Please note that we usually don't give user support for issues outside of Blender.

I really appreciate your efforts but, unfortunately, it did not help.
Also I did not find any Driver Power State Failure in Windows Event Viewer, how can I find it? Can you tell the way step by step please?
However, I have this: BlueScreenView

Great, you've already opened the minidump. The screenshot shows that the crash happens in the Windows kernel. Unfortunately, I can't see anything that would point to a particular source outside of the Windows kernel.

I would suggest that you run DISM and SFC to detect and fix potentially broken system files as described in this guide by Microsoft .

I did it, I have got this:

Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.

From link provided by you:
This means that you do not have any missing or corrupted system files.

As I told, I reinstalled Windows after problem appeared.

@tssrkt It could've been that the same file corruption occurred after reinstallation.

Do you have antivirus software installed and have you ruled out that it interferes? Have you checked that HDD/SSD doesn't have bad sectors or errors in the S.M.A.R.T. metrics? Have the RAM modules been checked, e.g. with Windows Memory Diagnostics or memtest?

Yes, I have nod32, but it was installed for long time before the problem. No, I did not check HDD/SSD & RAM, how to do that?

@tssrkt Antivirus software updates may also introduces problems. Just to rule it out as the culprit, try to temporarily deactivate (or deinstall) it completely (if that is possible), reboot, ensure that is deactivated and check if the crash still occurs. Reactivate it after the test.

To check the status of your hard drive, open the Windows Explorer (Win + E), right click on the drive and open the Properties. Select the Tools tab and the Error Checking section click on Check.

In order to test your RAM press Win + R and type MdSched.exe.

RAM & disk scanning did not show any errors.
With antivirus I will try tomorrow, now it's late here and nod32 is cranky, it will be big deal to stop nod32.))
For now, thank you a lot. See you tomorrow. :)
