macOS: Eevee Screen Space Reflections are broken on arm64 #88241

System Information
Operating system: macOS 11.3.1
Graphics card: Apple Silicon M1 chip

Blender Version
Broken: When running on Apple Silicon, macOS 2.92.0 release and 2.93.0 Beta for arm64 (c75b2019e1)
Worked: None that I tested.

Short description of error
Eevee Screen Space Reflections won't render correctly on Apple Silicon (arm64), but the feature does work correctly on Intel. The issue is happening on my 2020 Mac mini M1, on both 2.92.0 and the latest 2.93.0 Beta with clean installs of Blender. Another user has confirmed this bug here: #78710#1158178.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Here's an example .blend file with an emissive cube on a black plane, and Eevee SSR enabled.
Screen Space Reflection Test.blend

Opening that file on a 2018 MacBook Pro (Intel) running 2.92.0 on macOS 10.15.7, reflections show in the viewport and render as expected:
MacBook Pro 2018 Intel - Screenshot.jpg MacBook Pro Intel 2018 - Screen Space Reflections ON - Blender 2.92.0.jpg

But on the Mac mini M1, running either 2.93.0 Beta or 2.92.0 on macOS 11.3.1, it won't create reflections in the viewport or in renders; however a very thin, subtle glow beneath the cube is visible:

Just to help better see the thin glow in the image above, here's the same render from the Mac mini, but with SSR disabled:

Relevant info

  • I did some searching, and this post on StackExchange seems very relevant but the user didn't upload a .blend file to confirm.
  • #87801 looks similar to this, but it's regarding Ambient Occlusion.

Another user has confirmed this bug here: #78710#1158178.

Don't have any M1 to test in the triaging team, but confirming due to two reports.

I have a M1. I didn't see any SS reflection in the provided file at first but when I tweaked the glossiness of the black material (of the plane under the cube) the SS appeared in the viewport (and also in the render as expected).

So the SS reflection "work" but it is clearly off here...

(Screenshot: I changed the glossiness from 0.5 to a closer value to 0).

I've tested it again, and Screen Space Reflections have now been fixed in the 2.93.5 Candidate via 84f98e28e3, along with #87801 (Eevee ambient occlusion is incorrect on M1 macMini). Intel and Apple Silicon renders now match! Thanks, @fclem!
