VSE stops after moving one frame #90271

System Information
OS: Debian10
CPU: AMD64
GPU: GeForce GTX 1060 6GB

Blender Version w/issue: 2.93.0-1, 3.0 alpha

Short description of error:
VSE plays video one frame forward and then stops (in Blender 2.93-3.0)

After adding video to sequencer, whenever I hit "play animation" button FORWARD the video moves one frame forward and freezes.
Oddly, there is no problem when hitting the "play animation" button REVERSE (see short clip attached for visual description), and I had no issues of any kind in versions 2.92/.91/.90/.80, etc.

vse-playback-issue.mp4

Not sure if this is a bug or an oversight on my part, but curious how to fix.
Thank you,

Do you use Pulseaudio as output sound device? Check in User preferences > System > Sound.

This may be same issue as #89045 - there is experimental build with possilbe fix, not sure if this is merged in master yet, but in other report we need feedback:
Test this build with Audio Device set to "Pulseaudio" https://builder.blender.org/download/experimental/blender-3.0.0-alpha+master.a112adf16a06-linux.x86_64-release.tar.xz

Yes to PulseAudio as output sound
Yes looks to be identical issue to #89045
Will download experimental build referenced with feedback.

Same issue persists with experimental build but the issue goes away temporarily after saving the file and opening it up again similar to Christoffer's comment in #89045
Playing a saved version of the file will play a few hundred frames with no issue, and then the program freezes and crashes.

If there's any log I can add to be more helpful, please let me know.

Hi all, can confirm this with v3 alpha ede1ce6e9a .
Not sure if it helps, but switching sound from Pulseaudio to Open AL fixed it for me...

Thanks for testing.

@neXyon the experimental build is from #89045, does this info help?

I would merge these reports, but I was unsure if they are same issue.

Hi there!
Same here as described in the first post.
Environment Intel Core i3-3120M, Intel 3rd Gen Core processor Graphics, MX-19.4_x64 patito feo October 21 2019 (MX Linux) based on.... Debian GNU/Linux 10 (buster).
Tested with Blender 2.93.0 and 2.93.1.
Exact same issue (reverse works), exact same fix (Open AL).
Didn't test the beta, it won't start...
Cheers.

This and #89045 really seem the same, will merge since we now have a couple of these reports flying around, better to handle this in one place.
