Deleting a branch is permanent. Although the deleted branch may continue to exist for a short time before it actually gets removed, it CANNOT be undone in most cases. Continue?
Not convinced this is a bug in Blender as the issue has persisted across multiple versions, but I'm desparate for assistance with this issue
System Information
Operating system: Mac catalina 10.15.7
Graphics card: Radeon Pro 560 4 GB
Blender Version
Broken: 3.20
similar issue with all versions tried so far from 2.8 up
Short description of error
Blender crashes unexpectedly, usually after some brief period of inactivity, sometimes not, files are corrupted and won't open
crash report:
Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

Thanks for the report, but the crash-log only tells us where the crash occurred, it does not indicate what caused the crash.
That's why we need the "exact steps for others to reproduce the error".
I noticed that the attached .blend file is corrupted. Here is a "fixed" version of it:
Beaulieu-R16-battery-38-new-casing-validated.blend
Unfortunately this report does not contain all the requested information, which is required for us to investigate the issue.
Please be sure to provide the exact steps to reproduce the problem.
A guideline for making a good bug report can be found at https://wiki.blender.org/wiki/Process/Bug_Reports
Thanks for the response - the exact steps to reproduce the error is abit of a problem, there doesn't seem to be anything that causes the crash other than normal usage - the only recurring pattern is that Blender often crashes if there has been no activity with an open file for a few moments (for instance I get up to answer the door, or switch to Firefox to read incoming mail) and then I return to the application, perform any task, eg simply selecting an object or even just switching to Blender, it will crash and usually on attempting to open the file I was working on Blender will crash again - presumably because the file is corrupted, the only way for me to recover my work is to create a new file and append the items from the corrupted file, one by one, as invariably one of the objects will cause Blender to crash again.
In this case, it seems related to #70856 (macOS: Blender crashes when I log in/wake the display).
Since there is not much information to identify the cause in detail. I will merge the reports.
