Blender crashes when animating with particles and smoke simulation

apologies, i didn't mean to close this out. so apparently when i switched it to factory defaults and made an adjustment to the smoke resolution, the same issue happened again.

so with the factory default settings, it crashed the first time, but then once I reopened the file again in the factory default mode, the issue was gone.

Whenever I press the play button, I get this weird artifact issue. It may be my cpu, but if it is, I wanted to make sure. I've tested this in blender 4.2 & blender 3.6.11 and still got the same thing.
