I cannot reproduce this on Windows with AMD RX 5500 XT (RNDA 1).
Good catch again, thanks @Alaska for the investigation and @CarloAndreacchio for the report. I added the commit to the backport task for 4.2.
@mont29 Can you review this PR or find someone from within the module that can do it? Thanks in advance.
I can confirm the issue on a Radeon RX 5500 XT.

Raising priority since this is a major performance regression.
Do you have any add-ons or extensions installed? Does it also happen with the default scene (save the startup file as regular blend file)?
Hi, thanks for your offer. Please send us an e-mail, see "External Mirrors" on https://www.blender.org/about/website/
@ideasman42 Hey Campbell, could you please check on this report?
What is the status of this report? Are you waiting on further GP3 work before this can be fixed?
@fclem Can you please look into this report?
Any updates here? Since a partial fix is already committed, it would be good to fix this entirely :)
Any updates here? I suggest to either lower the priority if this needs more design and work or try to find some time to at add a workaround.
