93d84e87b2 Fix T103400: Transfer Mesh Data Layout broken for color attributes
This was the case when using the operator outside of the modifiers panel.

Caused by {rBeae36be372a6}.

In above commit, `DT_layer_items` shared both `DT_TYPE_MPROPCOL_LOOP` |
`DT_TYPE_MLOOPCOL_LOOP` in a single EnumPropertyItem value "Colors".
This is a bit unusual, but probably allowed.
As a consequence, checks for specific datatypes would fail when selecting
such EnumPropertyItem:
- `DT_DATATYPE_IS_MULTILAYERS` (uses `ELEM` to check distinct entries --
would return false)
- `BKE_object_data_transfer_dttype_to_srcdst_index` (would return
`DT_MULTILAYER_INDEX_INVALID`)

These places have now been corrected to take these "special" values into
account.

Another issue was that multiple EnumPropertyItems with the same value
could be created in dt_add_vcol_layers() if attributes of the same
domain, but different color types are in play (could lead to crashes)
and that has also been corrected.

Also: above commit did not give the choice of transfering color
attributes from the vertex domain (only face corner attributes could be
chosen), this has now been added. DT_layer_vert_items (used from the
modifier) already had this included so this was only an issue when using
the operator outside of the modifiers panel.

Since we now feature two domains, the single "VCOL" in the enum has been
split into "COLOR_VERTEX" and "COLOR_CORNER". This will break existing
scripts calling bpy.ops.object.datalayout_transfer and will be marked as
a breaking change in the release notes.

NOTE: there is another bug here when attributes of the same domain, but
different color types are in play and you want to transfer just a single
specific layer (but that is for a separate commit)

6c774feba2 Mesh: Move UV layers to generic attributes
Currently the `MLoopUV` struct stores UV coordinates and flags related
to editing UV maps in the UV editor. This patch changes the coordinates
to use the generic 2D vector type, and moves the flags into three
separate boolean attributes. This follows the design in T95965, with
the ultimate intention of simplifying code and improving performance.

Importantly, the change allows exporters and renderers to use UVs
"touched" by geometry nodes, which only creates generic attributes.
It also allows geometry nodes to create "proper" UV maps from scratch,
though only with the Store Named Attribute node for now.

The new design considers any 2D vector attribute on the corner domain
to be a UV map. In the future, they might be distinguished from regular
2D vectors with attribute metadata, which may be helpful because they
are often interpolated differently.

Most of the code changes deal with passing around UV BMesh custom data
offsets and tracking the boolean "sublayers". The boolean layers are
use the following prefixes for attribute names: vert selection: `.vs.`,
edge selection: `.es.`, pinning: `.pn.`. Currently these are short to
avoid using up the maximum length of attribute names. To accommodate
for these 4 extra characters, the name length limit is enlarged to 68
bytes, while the maximum user settable name length is still 64 bytes.

Unfortunately Python/RNA API access to the UV flag data becomes slower.
Accessing the boolean layers directly is be better for performance in
general.

Like the other mesh SoA refactors, backward and forward compatibility
aren't affected, and won't be changed until 4.0. We pay for that by
making mesh reading and writing more expensive with conversions.

4ad471d67f I18n: systematically tag all messages in RNA_ENUM_ITEM_HEADING.
Add missing labels, and also add tooltips.

Unfortunately there is no way currently to extract two messages from a
single 'function' call, so unless those type of macros become very
widely used, would keep it as manual tagging.

Also disambiguate `case` in text context, pretty sure English is one of
the very rare languages to use this word for character case too.

c8058e51ee RNA: add macros for EnumPropertyItem layout elements
Add the following macros for enums as support for these features wasn't
all that obvious and there were some inconsistencies in their use.

03ec505fa5 Cleanup: Rename CD_MLOOPCOL to CD_PROP_BYTE_COLOR
The "PROP" in the name reflects its generic status, and removing
"LOOP" makes sense because it is no longer associated with just
mesh face corners. In general the goal is to remove extra semantic
meaning from the custom data types.

1d18c0682f Fix T96888: data transfer operator crash in certain situation
The operator could crash in case the context "object" was overridden
from python, but the "active_object" wasnt (and the active object was
not a mesh).

Reason for the crash is a mismatch in the operators poll function
`data_transfer_poll` vs. `dt_layers_select_src_itemf` -- in the former,
the overriden "object" was respected (and if this was a mesh, the poll
was permissive), in the later it wasnt and only the "active_object" was
used (if this was not a mesh, a crash would happen trying to get an
evaluated mesh).

Now rectify how the object which is used is being fetched -> use
`ED_object_active_context` everywhere (see also rBe560bbe1d584).

eae36be372 Refactor: Unify vertex and sculpt colors into new
color attribute system.

This commit removes sculpt colors from experimental
status and unifies it with vertex colors. It
introduces the concept of "color attributes", which
are any attributes that represents colors.  Color
attributes can be represented with byte or floating-point
numbers and can be stored in either vertices or
face corners.

Color attributes share a common namespace
(so you can no longer have a floating-point
sculpt color attribute and a byte vertex color
attribute with the same name).

5596f79821 LibOverride: Massive edits to 'editable' IDs checks in editors code.
Add new `BKE_id_is_editable` helper in `BKE_lib_id.h`, that supercedes
previous check (simple `ID_IS_LINKED()` macro) for many editing cases.

This allows to also take into account 'system override' (aka
non-editable override) case.

a5578351c3 Auto-generate RNA-structs declarations in RNA_prototypes.h
So far it was needed to declare a new RNA struct to `RNA_access.h` manually.
Since 9b298cf3db we generate a `RNA_prototypes.h` for RNA property
declarations. Now this also includes the RNA struct declarations, so they don't
have to be added manually anymore.

c434782e3a File headers: SPDX License migration
Use a shorter/simpler license convention, stops the header taking so
much space.

Follow the SPDX license specification: https://spdx.org/licenses

- C/C++/objc/objc++
- Python
- Shell Scripts
- CMake, GNUmakefile

While most of the source tree has been included

- `./extern/` was left out.
- `./intern/cycles` & `./intern/atomic` are also excluded because they
  use different header conventions.

doc/license/SPDX-license-identifiers.txt has been added to list SPDX all
used identifiers.

See P2788 for the script that automated these edits.

7099d5b661 Fix: Missing translations from operator descriptions
The strings in the `get_description` functions for operators need
translation, they are not found by the translation system automatically,
and there is no translation applied afterwards either (as far as I could
tell). Some used `N_` before, but most did nothing.

c4df8ac1a4 Fix T89899: Crashes when accessing vertex groups from objects
We need to be more strict about trying to retrieve a list of vertex group
names from objects now, as only three object types support them.
This commit adds a check for vertex group support in a few places, the
data transfer operator/modifier, copying vertex groups to selected
objects, and the vertex group remove and clear functions.

3b6ee8cee7 Refactor: Move vertex group names to object data
This commit moves the storage of `bDeformGroup` and the active index
to `Mesh`, `Lattice`, and `bGPdata` instead of `Object`. Utility
functions are added to allow easy access to the vertex groups given
an object or an ID.

As explained in T88951, the list of vertex group names is currently
stored separately per object, even though vertex group data is stored
on the geometry. This tends to complicate code and cause bugs,
especially as geometry is created procedurally and tied less closely
to an object.

The "Copy Vertex Groups to Linked" operator is removed, since they
are stored on the geometry anyway.

This patch leaves the object-level python API for vertex groups in
place. Creating a geometry-level RNA API can be a separate step;
the changes in this commit are invasive enough as it is.

Note that opening a file saved in 3.0 in an earlier version means
the vertex groups will not be available.

63a6268e83 UI: Use unified format for "Warning" in descriptions
Warnings in tooltips were using inconsistent formatting, some in
parantheses, some not, some in caps, others not, some on new lines,
some not, etc.

This patch uses a consistent new line and no capitals for these cases.

600fb28b62 Geometry Nodes: active modifier + geometry nodes editor
This commit adds functions to set and get the object's active
modifier, which is stored as a flag in the ModifierData struct,
similar to constraints. This will be used to set the context in
the node editor. There are no visible changes in this commit.

Similar to how the node editor context works for materials, this commit
makes the node group displayed in the node editor depend on the active
object and its active modifier. To keep the node group from changing,
just pin the node group in the header.

* Shortcuts performed while there is an active modifier will affect
  only that modifier (the exception is the A to expand the modifiers).
* Clicking anywhere on the empty space in a modifier's panel will make it active.

These changes require some refactoring of object modifier code. First
is splitting up the modifier property invoke callback, which now needs
to be able to get the active modifier separately from the hovered
modifier for the different operators.

Second is a change to removing modifiers, where there is now a separate
function to remove a modifier from an object's list, in order to handle
changing the active.

Finally, the panel handler needs a small tweak so that this "click in panel"
event can be handled afterwards.

1ae8855f8e Fix T78308: Weight Transfer Operator "Deform Pose Bones" destination setting doesn't work.
Some modes were working by mere chance in that ugly 'reversed' case, but
the to/from selection modes were not properly swapped...

Should also be safe for 2.83.

5d2005cbb5 UI: Add shortcuts for grease pencil modifier panels
See rB1fa40c9f8a81 for more details. The implementation is the same.
The only difference to the mesh modifier  commit is a slight rework of
edit_modifier_invoke_properties in order to pass through to check for
other keymap items with the same shortcut.

1fa40c9f8a UI: Add shortcuts for modifier panels
The shortcuts act on the modifier with its panel under the mouse.
The following shortcuts are enabled by default:
  - Remove modifier: X, Delete
  - Apply modifier: Ctrl A
  - Duplicate modifier: Shift D
More shortcuts can be added in the keymap.

Each panel can now store a custom data RNA pointer, and a new
function is added to get the custom data for the panel under the
cursor. This custom data could be used to refactor the "List Panel
System" to generalize it and integrate it further with RNA.

The same functionality will be added  in further commits where it
applies to constraints, grease pencil modifiers, and effects.

3566b81c8b Refactor access to dependency graph
This change ensures that operators which needs access to evaluated data
first makes sure there is a dependency graph.

Other accesses to the dependency graph made it more explicit about
whether they just need a valid dependency graph pointer or whether they
expect the graph to be already evaluated.

This replaces OPTYPE_USE_EVAL_DATA which is now removed.

Some general rules about usage of accessors:

- Drawing is expected to happen from a fully evaluated dependency graph.
  There is now a function to access it, which will in the future control
  that dependency graph is actually evaluated.

  This check is not yet done because there are some things to be taken
  care about first: for example, post-update hooks might leave scene in
  a state where something is still tagged for update.

- All operators which needs to access evaluated state must use
  CTX_data_ensure_evaluated_depsgraph().

  This function replaces OPTYPE_USE_EVAL_DATA.

  The call is generally to be done in the very beginning of the
  operator, prior other logic (unless this is some comprehensive
  operator which might or might not need access to an evaluated state).

  This call is never to be used from a loop.

  If some utility function requires evaluated state of dependency graph
  the graph is to be passed as an explicit argument. This way it is
  clear that no evaluation happens in a loop or something like this.

- All cases which needs to know dependency graph pointer, but which
  doesn't want to actually evaluate it can use old-style function
  CTX_data_depsgraph_pointer(), assuming that underlying code will
  ensure dependency graph is evaluated prior to accessing it.

- The new functions are replacing OPTYPE_USE_EVAL_DATA, so now it is
  explicit and local about where dependency graph is being ensured.

This commit also contains some fixes of wrong usage of evaluation
functions on original objects. Ideally should be split out, but in
reality with all the APIs being renamed is quite tricky.

Fixes T67454: Blender crash on rapid undo and select

Speculation here is that sometimes undo and selection operators are
sometimes handled in the same event loop iteration, which leaves
non-evaluated dependency graph.

1c40227bfa Fix related to T67385: disallow some modifiers ops from Edit mode.
Some modifier operators cannot be reliably executed from Edit mode
currently, so disable them from the generic mod ops pool function.

Have been very conservative here from now, keeping existing behavior
most of the time, and only forbidding Edit mode when code was already
doing it in its own way, or when it was obviously not possible.

0470818411 Fix T59848: precisely represent the dependencies of Armature modifier.
When the modifier uses vertex groups, the set of the bones it actually
needs is precisely defined by the set of the group names. If envelopes
are enabled, this refinement is not available, because any bone can
potentially be used.

This can be used in the dependency graph construction to allow objects
deformed by a part of the armature to be used in constraints on other
bones, e.g. for placing cartoon-style face elements on top of the body
mesh via Shrinkwrap constraints.

Since the list of vertex group names is now used as an input by
the dependency graph, adding/removing/renaming groups should now
be triggering a graph rebuild.

52d5d53b5e Fix T55956: Transfer Weights: Source Layers can't be set to Active Layer.
Behavior of source/destination options was rather flaky in reversed
mode...

Note that even though this mode is a bit annoying and cumbersome, the
only alternative (defining a specific transfer weight operator) would be
much more verbose, so think that for now we'd rather keep what we have
here.

ab0bc65c24 Refactor CDData masks, to have one mask per mesh elem type.
We already have different storages for cddata of verts, edges etc.,
'simply' do the same for the mask flags we use all around Blender code
to request some data, or limit some operation to some layers, etc.

Reason we need this is that some cddata types (like Normals) are
actually shared between verts/polys/loops, and we don’t want to generate
clnors everytime we request vnors!

As a side note, this also does final fix to T59338, which was the
trigger for this patch (need to request computed loop normals for
another mesh than evaluated one).
