Blender too now! :)
** Drag works as follows:
- drag-able items are defined by the standard interface ui toolkit
- each button can get this feature, via uiButSetDragXXX(but, ...).
There are calls to define drag-able images, ID blocks, RNA paths,
file paths, and so on. By default you drag an icon, exceptionally
an ImBuf
- Drag items are registered centrally in the WM, it allows more drag
items simultaneous too, but not implemented
** Drop works as follows:
- On mouse release, and if drag items exist in the WM, it converts
the mouse event to an EVT_DROP type. This event then gets the full
drag info as customdata
- drop regions are defined with WM_dropbox_add(), similar to keymaps
you can make a "drop map" this way, which become 'drop map handlers'
in the queues.
- next to that the UI kit handles some common button types (like
accepting ID or names) to be catching a drop event too.
- Every "drop box" has two callbacks:
- poll() = check if the event drag data is relevant for this box
- copy() = fill in custom properties in the dropbox to initialize
an operator
- The dropbox handler then calls its standard Operator with its
dropbox properties.
** Currently implemented
Drag items:
- ID icons in browse buttons
- ID icons in context menu of properties region
- ID icons in outliner and rna viewer
- FileBrowser icons
- FileBrowser preview images
Drag-able icons are subtly visualized by making them brighter a bit
on mouse-over. In case the icon is a button or UI element too (most
cases), the drag-able feature will make the item react to
mouse-release instead of mouse-press.
Drop options:
- UI buttons: ID and text buttons (paste name)
- View3d: Object ID drop copies object
- View3d: Material ID drop assigns to object under cursor
- View3d: Image ID drop assigns to object UV texture under cursor
- Sequencer: Path drop will add either Image or Movie strip
- Image window: Path drop will open image
** Drag and drop Notes:
- Dropping into another Blender window (from same application) works
too. I've added code that passes on mousemoves and clicks to other
windows, without activating them though. This does make using multi-window
Blender a bit friendler.
- Dropping a file path to an image, is not the same as dropping an
Image ID... keep this in mind. Sequencer for example wants paths to
be dropped, textures in 3d window wants an Image ID.
- Although drop boxes could be defined via Python, I suggest they're
part of the UI and editor design (= how we want an editor to work), and
not default offered configurable like keymaps.
- At the moment only one item can be dragged at a time. This is for
several reasons.... For one, Blender doesn't have a well defined
uniform way to define "what is selected" (files, outliner items, etc).
Secondly there's potential conflicts on what todo when you drop mixed
drag sets on spots. All undefined stuff... nice for later.
- Example to bypass the above: a collection of images that form a strip,
should be represented in filewindow as a single sequence anyway.
This then will fit well and gets handled neatly by design.
- Another option to check is to allow multiple options per drop... it
could show the operator as a sort of menu, allowing arrow or scrollwheel
to choose. For time being I'd prefer to try to design a singular drop
though, just offer only one drop action per data type on given spots.
- What does work already, but a tad slow, is to use a function that
detects an object (type) under cursor, so a drag item's option can be
further refined (like drop object on object = parent). (disabled)
** More notes
- Added saving for Region layouts (like split points for toolbar)
- Label buttons now handle mouse over
- File list: added full path entry for drop feature.
- Filesel bugfix: wm_operator_exec() got called there and fully handled,
while WM event code tried same. Added new OPERATOR_HANDLED flag for this.
Maybe python needs it too?
- Cocoa: added window move event, so multi-win setups work OK (didnt save).
- Interface_handlers.c: removed win->active
- Severe area copy bug: area handlers were not set to NULL
- Filesel bugfix: next/prev folder list was not copied on area copies
** Leftover todos
- Cocoa windows seem to hang on cases still... needs check
- Cocoa 'draw overlap' swap doesn't work
- Cocoa window loses focus permanently on using Spotlight
(for these reasons, makefile building has Carbon as default atm)
- ListView templates in UI cannot become dragged yet, needs review...
it consists of two overlapping UI elements, preventing handling icon clicks.
- There's already Ghost library code to handle dropping from OS
into Blender window. I've noticed this code is unfinished for Macs, but
seems to be complete for Windows. Needs test... currently, an external
drop event will print in console when succesfully delivered to Blender's WM.
Revised external multires file saving. Now it is more manual in that you
have to specify where to save it, like an image file, but still saved at
the same time as the .blend. It would ideally be automatic, but this is
difficult to implement, so for now this should at least be more reliable.
Auto save is now working again in 2.5. It will also remember now what
the location of the original file was when recovering it, so that
library links still work and saving the restored file does not save to
the temp directory. There is also a new Recover Auto Save operator
which will open the filebrowser in the temp directory and show the
auto saved .blends.
Implemenation Notes:
* Timer storage was moved from window to windowmanager, so we can have
windowmanager level timers too now, doesn't make sense to have
autosave timer attached to a particular window.
* FileGlobal now has a filename field storing where the file was saved.
Note that this is only used when loading a file through the recover
operators, regular file read doesn't use it, so copying the quit.blend
manually over the original file will still work as expected.
* Jobs timer no longer uses operator now, this seems more like an
internal thing, changing keymaps should not make it possible to break
the jobs manager.
* Autosave is postponed by 10 seconds when a modal operator is running,
e.g. transform or file browsing.
* Moved setting G.sce in setup_app_data before depsgraph updates, these
can use the filename for pointcaches.
Editors Modules
* render/ module added in editors, moved the preview render code there and
also shading related operators.
* physics/ module made more consistent with other modules. renaming files,
making a single physics_ops.c for operators and keymaps. Also move all
particle related operators here now.
* space_buttons/ now should have only operators relevant to the buttons
specificially.
Updates & Notifiers
* Material/Texture/World/Lamp can now be passed to DAG_id_flush_update,
which will go back to a callback in editors. Eventually these should
be in the depsgraph itself, but for now this gives a unified call for
doing updates.
* GLSL materials are now refreshed on changes. There's still various
cases missing,
* Preview icons now hook into this system, solving various update cases
that were missed before.
* Also fixes issue in my last commit, where some preview would not render,
problem is avoided in the new system.
Icon Rendering
* On systems with support for non-power of two textures, an OpenGL texture
is now used instead of glDrawPixels. This avoids problems with icons get
clipped on region borders. On my Linux desktop, this gives an 1.1x speedup,
and on my Mac laptop a 2.3x speedup overall in redrawing the full window,
with the default setup. The glDrawPixels implementation on Mac seems to
have a lot of overhread.
* Preview icons are now drawn using proper premul alpha, and never faded so
you can see them clearly.
* Also tried to fix issue with texture node preview rendering, globals can't
be used with threads reliably.
* The code to draw only visible items was not working, giving slow
performance with many files (bug #19469).
* Fix detailed list display on non-windows, would give overlapping text.
* Fix folders with many files not displaying all items, changed short to
int in various places, was overflowing.
* Recreate layout on area resizes, file view gets out of sync otherwise.
* Workaround for v2d height not being correct with image display due to
scrollers.
* Fix view2d code to compute minimum scroller size, this would make the
scroller go outside of its bounds.
Bugfix: revert to previous behaviour of BLI_rename, is used for safe blendfile saving.
Added guard in file browser though to prevent user from invoking this.
* Side panels now use list widgets.
* Enabled theme colors for side panel.
* Add button in bookmarks panel.
* Operator panel title now uses operator name.
* For unix, added / to system, and home and desktop to bookmarks.
* For opening fileselect with filter, cleaned up the code a bit,
adding WM_operator_properties_filesel instead of duplicating code.
* Also added filter for all operators calling fileselect, only image
and file open did it before.
* Hide . files by default, and also hide files ending with ~.
* Added back .. (but not .) in the file list, I really missed this.
* File highlight now only happens when you're actually over a file,
instead staying after you move the mouse away.
* Fix some redraw/refresh issues.
* operator for create new directory activated (IKEY)
* operator for rename (works on files and directories so far) (CTRL+LMB)
Note: fail to rename is rather quiet, no message popup, just doesn't rename if it can't.
So far checked that (On Windows Vista) rename fails on system directories, which I think acceptable.
Note: I removed the code that (silently) deletes file if I rename file to an existing one. Considered harmful :)
Bugfixes:
* crash when loading file that has filebrowser open
* file size over 2GB/4GB? shows negative number
Other:
* tried to improve drawing speed a bit by only drawing the files actually shown and improving refresh behaviour a bit.
Note: Solution I found so far is to use the non-standard _stat64, as far as I could see, WIN64 should work without that patch (Genscher, please check and if needed you can enable this too by removing the !defined(WIN64) )
This probably needs to be fixed in at least one other place (BLI_filesize), will look into this once this fix proves stable enough)
* tweak for autocomplete, only update live if live_update and TAB key is hit. (Brecht, please check if it's ok, otherwise will revert and we'll find another way)
* adding slash at the end of directory to allow for faster autocomplete
* bugfix: directory name buton had wrong length
* bugfix: adding back adding the region on read of old files
* tweak: buttons for increment/decrement file number now have icons and size adjusted to UI_UNIT_X/UI_UNIT_Y
* bugfix: don't allow parent dir to go beyond root
* bugfix: only attempt to change directory if it exists
New (WIP) feature: autocomplete for directory
* works on TAB
* so far only one level (in current directory)
* directory button enabled again, c code for now, can later become nicer operator
* filename button enabled (pattern match for selection)
* RNA completed (title, file and directory)
* some unused code removal.
* start of filebrowser RNA
* system files, bookmarks, etc. now nicely inside panels to allow collapsing etc.
* filebrowser header now defined in space_filebrowser.py
TODO:
* button type for bookmarks etc. not final yet, at least should get centered still. Suggestions welcome here.
check Save Image or Export PLY operator for example.
Also these code changes:
* Added some RNA collection iterator macros to simplify code.
* Fix bpy.props.BoolProperty not working correct.
* Merge uiDefAutoButsRNA/uiDefAutoButsRNA_single into one.
- file editors/space_image/image_panels.c -> image_buttons.c (renamed)
- file editors/interface/interface_templates.c added
Also added small fix for crash in filebrowser.
- drawing code cleanup
- use of BLF_font in own string drawing, needs to be aligned with uiStyles still.
- thumbnail scaling now done on graphics card via new glaDrawPixelsTexScaled (slightly modified glaDrawPixelsTex)
1) Remove WITH_FREETYPE2 from code, so now blender always need freetype2
2) Remove the old bmfont
3) Remove ftfont and bFTGL library
4) Implement a new BLF_draw_default function for place that still need/use
the old BMF api.
I try to update both, scons and cmake, but I only can test with make, so
hope all work fine.
MSVC is broken, but I don't have Windows, things to search and fix are
any reference to WITH_FREETYPE2, FTGL and BMFONT (take in care that
blenkernel also have a BKE_bmfont.h, this don't have anything to do with bmfont).
Always have to link/include the freetype2 library
Remove any reference to libbmfont
Remove any reference to libftfont
Remove any reference to libbftgl (or libbFTGL)
More cleanup!
- removed old UI font completely, including from uiBeginBlock
- emboss hints for uiBlock only have three types now;
Regular, Pulldown, or "Nothing" (only icon/text)
- removed old font path from Userdef
- removed all old button theme hinting
- removed old "auto block" to merge buttons in groups
(was only in use for radiosity buttons)
And went over all warnings. One hooray for make giving clean output :)
Well, we need uniform definitions for warnings, so people at least fix
them... here's the real bad bugs I found:
- in mesh code, a call to editmesh mixed *em and *me
- in armature, ED_util.h was not included, so no warnings for wrong call
to ED_undo_push()
- The extern Py api .h was not included in the bpy_interface.c, showing
a several calls using different args.
Further just added the missing includes, and removed unused vars.
Grand cleanup:
- removal of FTF and ftfont dir
- removal of text.c which wrapped it
- wrapped old text drawing code temporarily, need to decide how 'style'
will behave per editor when you draw strings outside interface code....
wouldn't be very useful to set fonts locally all over?
- drawing tweak for background lines
- long and short display now behave the same, only difference is column width now.
TODO still:
- add additional columns (access rights - mode1-mode3 and owner) for non-Windows platforms
* added filter buttons to header
* changed large icon for movie files to match small icon
* fixed small stack corruption in interface_draw.c (Matt, check if this is ok)
* moved nice display of file size to storage.c, where string is created.
- better encapsulation for fsmenu to make it easier to remove global later.
- cleaned up fsmenu code to use just one global
- on file_exec current directory gets added to recent.
- save last 10 recent files in .Bfs too.
- cleaned up warnings (mostly unneeded variables)
- new icons for filebrowser (large refresh and parent icons missing though)
- fixed error in large icon drawing due to texture coordinates calculated outside subpart of texture.
- removed library loading stuff from filelist
(WIP commit)
- added categories SYSTEM, BOOKMARKS and RECENT to left panel (recent files not filled yet)
- selection for bookmarks now works by storing draw position, might do that for the file list too
- removed fsmenu button and Bookmark button from UI region
Some UI tweaks and fixes
* fixed some overlapping buttons (Matt, feel free to change button arrangement if you like), the Bookmark (B) button should probably be removed eventually from the current place and the fsmenu button as well, now that we have the directories on the left panel.
* fixed initialisation of params->display
(aligorith: thanks for fixing, I did reset the #defines, since it was just missing the correct value in the initialisation)
* fixed bug when area became too small (crash)
* fixed bug (last file missing in long display)
* fixed selection when mouse outside tiles.
A few UI goodies from on the plane:
- fixed the sliders for non-rounded themes
- Made properties with rna subtype of 'percentage' automatically display a '%'
character *after* the numerical value, where it belongs. It would also be really great
to add a ° - degree symbol after angle and perhaps rotation subtypes. This works
fine with international fonts but not with oldskool bitmap fonts (not part of ascii). I
wonder if there's a way to get around this?
- Added nice embossing effects on buttons, labels and pulldowns (there you go, brecht :)
- and cooler looking tooltips
And did some work on the file browser. Andrea, I hope this is ok, let me know if
there are problems and I can work on fixing it up :)
- added some new icons for file types, that are now shown in list view.
icon designers, please feel free to update and make nicer ones!
- tweaked the default colour theme and did some graphical fiddling to make the
various views look nicer
- rearranged the buttons on the header and swapped the 'P' button for an up arrow
button, this needs a nicer icon too.
- added outliner style alternating bands to the list view to see info grouping better.
This has a small prob in columns view though, can fix that.
- WIP commit
- bookmarks toggling (region collapsing needs to be done still)
- switching between display types in header (long filenames needs to be done still)
Small fixes for filewindow;
- on resize area/window, the load button disappeared.
- made scrollers indicate what direction works
- mousewheel scroll switches to horizontal automatically now
(assuming we keep filelists horiz, previews vertical scrolled)
View2d got hacked a bit by me for it; i guess for some cases
the scroll value should become customizable. Will come back
later!
FileWindow:
It appeared all load/save went via 1 call, so the 'OK save over' menu
popped up on loading files too.
Added check in the function for saving... bit weak, could become an
argument for ED_fileselect.
Also renamed file operators to conform to others.
Render back! And not only back, even full threaded now. :)
Current state is unfinished, but too much fun to not to
commit for review and test!
WARNING: because render is in a threaded job, it will
use data as can be edited in the UI. That'll crash in many
cases of course... the idea is to limit UI usage to viewing
stuff, especially for the Image Window to inspect layers
or zoom in/out.
What works now;
- F12 render (no anim)
- ESC from render
- ESC pushes back temporary Image Window
- Render to ImageWindow or full-screen.
- Executing composites, and edit composites after render.
Note that the UI is 100% responsive in a render, you can
switch screens, slide area dividers around, or even load
a new file during render. :) It's quite stable even.
I'll collect all crash reports especially to get a good
picture of where the protection is required at least.
Also added: XKey "Delete Objects", to get things crash...
unfortunately it didn't for me.
