9059639df4 2.5: Screen/Scene New/Delete operators.
Implementation Note:
* Moved the scene copy/unlink code back into blenkernel, with
the exception of the copy single user stuff which is still in
  object_edit.c.
* Uses SCREENDELETE notifier like SCREENBROWSE, seems only clean
  way to do this now.

58c88bcf76 BF2.5: First commit of smoke code.
Not working:
a) rendering (since volumterics branch is not merged yet)
b) moving collision objects of any kind
c) saving of collision objects (because that's what I am working on)
d) pointcache
e) A bunch of other things I already know of

So please do not report any bugs on this one yet :-)

aa44603146 2.5: File browser
* Side panels now use list widgets.
* Enabled theme colors for side panel.
* Add button in bookmarks panel.
* Operator panel title now uses operator name.
* For unix, added / to system, and home and desktop to bookmarks.

* For opening fileselect with filter, cleaned up the code a bit,
adding WM_operator_properties_filesel instead of duplicating code.
* Also added filter for all operators calling fileselect, only image
and file open did it before.
* Hide . files by default, and also hide files ending with ~.

* Added back .. (but not .) in the file list, I really missed this.
* File highlight now only happens when you're actually over a file,
instead staying after you move the mouse away.
* Fix some redraw/refresh issues.

cbb9dfaab8 2.5 file browser
* operator for create new directory activated (IKEY)
* operator for rename (works on files and directories so far) (CTRL+LMB)

Note: fail to rename is rather quiet, no message popup, just doesn't rename if it can't.
So far checked that (On Windows Vista) rename fails on system directories, which I think acceptable.

Note: I removed the code that (silently) deletes file if I rename file to an existing one. Considered harmful :)

569bb8f47d 2.5 filebrowser
Bugfixes:
* crash when loading file that has filebrowser open
* file size over 2GB/4GB? shows negative number
Other:
* tried to improve drawing speed a bit by only drawing the files actually shown and improving refresh behaviour a bit.

Note: Solution I found so far is to use the non-standard _stat64, as far as I could see, WIN64 should work without that patch (Genscher, please check and if needed you can enable this too by removing the !defined(WIN64) )
This probably needs to be fixed in at least one other place (BLI_filesize), will look into this once this fix proves stable enough)

756488fbe2 2.5: Painting
Various fixes for painting, sculpting and particle edit, still
much to be done...

* Move RNA paint and sculpt structs into rna_sculpt_paint.c,
* Added Particle Edit RNA.
* Some tweaks to existing Paint RNA.

* Put texture paint and particle edit object in context.

* Fix some errors in the brush layout, properly doing None
checks, fixing some wrong property identifiers.
* Added tool enum for texture paint and particle edit in panels.

* Allow editing brush textures in the texture buttons, still with
a stupid toggle, ideas for how to make the connection better are
  welcome.

a1407ff342 2.5:
* Windows fixes for texture filter & bump patches, thanks
  Jean-Michel Soler for noting.

* Added sqrtf/sinf/fabsf/... fallback #ifdefs in BLI_arithb.h,
those should be safe to use now. Replacing the double for the
float version throughout the code can be done once, but would
  need proper testing.

0b49dc77de 2.5: Bump Mapping
Patch by Alfredo de Greef. Considerably improves the quality of bump
mapping, and texture filtering for displacement and warp too. Mainly
this is achieved by getting the texture derivatives just right in
various cases, many thanks to Alfredo for figuring this one out, works
great.

This is enabled by default now, but disabled still for existing
textures to preserve backwards compatibility. Can be enabled with
the "New Bump" option in the material texture slot in the outliner.

Also, I made the range for the normal factor a bit smaller since this
gives stronger effects, but note that you can still type in larger
values than the slider allows.

b4353a8443 Initial code for boids v2
Too many new features to list! But here are the biggies:
- Boids can move on air and/or land, or climb a goal object.
- Proper interaction with collision objects.
	* Closest collision object in negative z direction is considered as ground.
	* Other collision objects are obstacles and boids collide with them.
- Boid behavior rules are now added to a dynamic list.
	* Many new rules and many still not implemented.
	* Different rule evaluation modes (fuzzy, random, average).
- Only particle systems defined by per system "boid relations" are considered for simulation of that system.
	* This is in addition to the boids own system of course.
	* Relations define other systems as "neutral", "friend" or "enemy".
- All effectors now effect boid physics, not boid brains.
	* This allows forcing boids somewhere.
	* Exception to this is new "boid" effector, which defines boid predators (positive strength) and goals (negative strength).

Known issue:
- Boid health isn't yet stored in pointcache so simulations with "fight" rule are not be read from cache properly.
- Object/Group visualization object's animation is not played in "particle time". This is definately the wanted behavior, but isn't possible with the current state of dupliobject code.

Other new features:
- Particle systems can now be named separately from particle settings.
	* Default name for particle settings is now "ParticleSettings" instead of "PSys"
- Per particle system list of particle effector weights.
	* Enables different effection strengths for particles from different particle systems with without messing around with effector group setting.

Other code changes:
- KDTree now supports range search as it's needed for new boids.
- "Keyed particle targets" renamed as general "particle targets", as they're needed for boids too. (this might break some files saved with new keyed particles)

Bug fixes:
- Object & group visualizations didn't work.
- Interpolating pointcache didn't do rotation.

cc69f13013 2.5 - Constraints Editing + Keyframe Drawing Tweaks
Constraints:
* Adding constraints with targets should now work.
-- (When no target is provided, the code to create a new target is not yet in place again yet)
* Constraints can be added in Object and PoseModes again using the Ctrl-Shift-C hotkey.
* All constraints can now be cleared from the active Object or selected Bones using the Ctrl-Alt-C hotkey.
* Added warnings when adding constraints invalid for the current context, and removed the old add_constraint() function.
* Buttons window updates correctly after adding keyframes now

Keyframes Drawing:
* Removed un-necessary extra function-call for RB-Tree implementation, by inlining a special one-off case.
* Keyframe diamonds which are not within the viewable area are now not drawn (but filtering will still need to find them).

169a87cb0b 2.5 - Optimisations for Keyframe Drawing in DopeSheet
Keyframes are now prepared for drawing by being added to a binary-tree structure instead of using insertion-sort on a Double-Linked List. This gives rather significant improvements on a few bad cases (*).

I've implemented a basic Red-Black Tree whose nodes/data-structures can also be used as a simple Double-Linked List (ListBase) for this purpose. The implementation of this tree currently does not have support for removing individual nodes, since such capabilities aren't needed yet.

Stats (using keyframes from an imported .bvh animation file):
* When only the keyframes are drawn (i.e. long keyframes are not identified), the time needed to draw the DopeSheet region 10 times went down from 4000ms to about 300ms.
* When long keyframes are considered as well, the same test has gone from 6000ms to 3000ms. There is still a bottleneck there that I haven't been able to remove yet (an attempt at this made the runtimes go through the roof - 32000 ms for the test done here).

Assorted Notes:
* Added missing headers for some files
* Fixed profiling flags for mingw. There was an extra space which prevented the sound-code from compiling.

1ef7293585 Colour Management
- 1st stage: Linear Workflow

This implements automatic linear workflow in Blender's renderer. With the
new Colour Management option on in the Render buttons, all inputs to the
renderer and compositor are converted to linear colour space before
rendering, and gamma corrected afterwards. In essence, this makes all
manual gamma correction with nodes, etc unnecessary, since it's done
automatically through the pipeline.

It's all explained much better in the notes/doc here, so please have a look:
http://wiki.blender.org/index.php/Dev:Source/Blender/Architecture/Colour_Management

And an example of the sort of difference it makes:
http://mke3.net/blender/devel/rendering/b25_colormanagement_test01.jpg

This also enables Colour Management in the default B.blend, and changes the
default lamp falloff to inverse square, which is more correct, and much
easier to use now it's all gamma corrected properly.

Next step is to look into profiles/soft proofing for the compositor.

Thanks to brecht for reviewing and fixing some oversights!

Mostly harmless ones, except for one about "gzopen64" being

3b2ec94977 Voxel data & volume light cache
* Added support for additional file types in the voxel data texture. I added
support for 8 bit raw files, but most notably for image sequences.

Image sequences generate the voxel grid by stacking layers of image slices on top
of each other to generate the voxels in the Z axis - the number of slices in the
sequence is the resolution of the voxel grid's Z axis.

i.e. http://mke3.net/blender/devel/rendering/volumetrics/skull_layers.jpg

The image sequence option is particularly useful for loading medical data into
Blender. 3d medical data such as MRIs or CT scans are often stored as DICOM
format image sequences. It's not in Blender's scope to support the DICOM format,
but there are plenty of utilities such as ImageMagick, Photoshop or OsiriX that
can easily convert DICOM files to formats that Blender supports, such as PNG or JPEG.

Here are some example renderings using these file formats to load medical data:
http://vimeo.com/5242961
http://vimeo.com/5242989
http://vimeo.com/5243228

Currently the 8 bit raw and image sequence formats only support the 'still'
rendering feature.

* Changed the default texture placement to be centred around 0.5,0.5,0.5, rather
than within the 0.0,1.0 cube. This is more consistent with image textures, and it
also means you can easily add a voxel data texture to a default cube without
having to mess around with mapping.

* Added some more extrapolation modes such as Repeat and Extend rather than just clipping

http://mke3.net/blender/devel/rendering/volumetrics/bradybunch.jpg

* Changed the voxel data storage to use MEM_Mapalloc (memory mapped disk cache)
rather than storing in ram, to help cut down memory usage.

* Refactored and cleaned up the code a lot. Now the access and interpolation code
is separated into a separate voxel library inside blenlib. This is now properly
shared between voxel data texture and light cache (previously there was some
duplicated code).

* Made volume light cache support non-cubic voxel grids. Now the resolution
specified in the material properties is used for the longest edge of the volume
object's bounding box, and the shorter edges are proportional (similar to how
resolution is calculated for fluid sim domains).

This is *much* more memory efficient for squashed volume regions like clouds
layer bounding boxes, allowing you to raise the resolution considerably while
still keeping memory usage acceptable.

Checker: UNINIT (help)
File: base/src/source/blender/blenlib/intern/freetypefont.c
Function: objchr_to_ftvfontdata
Description: Using uninitialized value "face" in call to function "freetypechar_to_vchar"

freetypechar_to_vchar expects face to be defined so we need to
return before then if we have a problem. Also it doesn't
make sense to not return FALSE if there is an error because we
didn't do anything.

ab407f6ac7 2.5
First version of region-scaling. WIP commit, so bear with me a while!

- All fixed sized regions have a small 'drag' widget, on the left or top.
(not yet for free-sized regions, like 4-split).
- Mouse-over on widget changes cursor and allows drag.
- Click on widget hides/reveals.
- Fun for test; 3d view header, if high enough, draws more rows of
buttons when width is too small.

The WIP stuff;
- It doesn't save yet in files, using the "minsize" variable of region
definitions, also means other similar areas show same sizes now.
- Definitions for pref size, min/max will be added.
- Properties panel in Fcurve window draws widget on wrong place when
  hidden (subdiv system needs tweak)
- Widgets don't draw perfect yet, also needs further tweaks.

But, in general it's quite fun and usable. :) Many variatians are possible,
like for real tabs, or little icons, or just click-drag on edge.

The reason to first try the widget/tab variation:
- it re-uses the "Area Action Zone" code, widgets for layouting Screens
- it's visible, hotkey-only options for screen layouts are not preferred.
- distinguish clearly area-edges from region-edges this way. Having the
cursor change shape on every edge (and block input) is probably annoying
too... but that can be tested.

Later more!

adff6aeb1c RNA: Generic Type Registration
The Python API to define Panels and Operators is based on subclassing,
this makes that system more generic, and based on RNA. Hopefully that
will make it easy to make various parts of Blender more extensible.

* The system simply uses RNA properties and functions and marks them
with REGISTER to make them part of the type registration process.
Additionally, the struct must provide a register/unregister callback
to create/free the PanelType or similar.
* From the python side there were some small changes, mainly that
registration now goes trough bpy.types.register instead of
  bpy.ui.addPanel.

* Only Panels have been wrapped this way now. Check rna_ui.c to see
how this code works. There's still some rough edges and possibilities
to make it cleaner, though it works without any manual python code.
* Started some docs here:

http://wiki.blender.org/index.php/BlenderDev/Blender2.5/RNATypeRegistration

* Also changed some RNA_property and RNA_struct functions to not
require a PointerRNA anymore, where they were not required (which
is actually the cause of most changed files).
