Use 'size' instead of 'len' to represent the size of data in bytes,
'len' is used for the result of 'strlen' or the length of an array
in some parts of 'makesdna.c' & 'dna_genfile.c'.
Also clarify comments and some variable names, no functional changes.
This allows us to rename struct & struct members in the source code
without changing the file format.
This is useful because the code becomes increasingly confusing when
names such as oops, ipo & dupli aren't used anywhere except DNA headers.
dna_rename_defs.h is used to define renaming operations.
The renaming it's self will be done separately.
Currently only a single function was duplicated which isn't so bad,
this change is to allow DNA versioning code to be shared between
dna_genfile.c and makesdna.c.
BF-admins agree to remove header information that isn't useful,
to reduce noise.
- BEGIN/END license blocks
Developers should add non license comments as separate comment blocks.
No need for separator text.
- Contributors
This is often invalid, outdated or misleading
especially when splitting files.
It's more useful to git-blame to find out who has developed the code.
See P901 for script to perform these edits.
Since SDNA was allocated for each undo step,
the new address meant it was considered different and included again.
Add an option not to duplicate the DNA string when calling DNA_sdna_from_data,
as well as avoiding a redundant copy, it writes the same address each time.
924c626 broke loading on systems with different endian.
We could support reading values from SDNA, it isn't really worth the extra hassle.
Long support is still removed, just keep enum values the same.
Summary:
This commit removes ~10000 strlen calls and ~100000 memcpy calls in blender (profiled with blender --background), ~10000 memcpy calls in makesdna.
There is no need to create null-terminated strings for atoi, because it converts only the initial portion of the string anyway.
Also it was noticed that DNA_elem_array_size and arraysize functions work only with full strings, so there is no point to calculate strlen.

Automatic switching for drawing pixel buffers via glDrawPixels or using GPU textures
It works with a User Preference limit, in megapixels, to define whether to use
GPU or direct pixel drawing. Default is now initialized to 10 MP (4k buffers).
Especially for zooming out (draw smaller) texture drawing is much smaller. Also
Nvidia cards typically draw much faster with textures in general.
Added to node backdrop first now, the other editors follow in a next commit.
For coders: added new DNA function to initialize new struct variables, so you
don't have to sub-version files anymore.
DNA_struct_elem_find(fd->filesdna, "structname", "typename", "varname")
"filesdna" is the sdna description of the current file being versioned.
- memset(..., -1) is used incorrectly even though it worked: MOD_solidify.c - thanks Halley from IRC for noticing this. use fill_vn_i() instead.
- quiet warnings in editmesh_slide.c
- cleanup comments in bmesh and some other minor comment additions.
This is the first code for the Data API, also known as RNA system in the
2.5 Branch. It does not include a user interface, and only wraps some
Scene properties for testing. It is integrated with Scons and Makefiles,
and compiles a 'makesrna' program that generates an RNA.c file.

The changes are quite local, basically adding a makesrna module which
works similar to the makesdna module. The one external change is in
moving genfile.c from blenloader to the makesdna module, so that it can
be reused by the RNA code. This also meant changing the DNA makefiles.
It seems to be doing dependencies correct still in my tests, but if
there is an issue with the DNA not being rebuilt this commit might be
the one causing it. Also it seems for scons the makesdna and makesrna
modules are compiling without warnings. Not a new issue but this should
be fixed.
The RNA code supports all types as defined in the Data API design, so
in that sense it is fairly complete and I hope that aspect will not
have to change much. Some obviously missing parts are context related
code, notify() functions for updates and user defined / ID properties.
