Short description of error
Add curve: Extra objects add-on is not visible in add object menu.
(Note: add-on checked in the add-on menu.)

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
1.) Open preferences.
2.) Check: Add curve: Extra objects
3.) Open add menu (SHIFT+A)
4.) No extra objects

The extra curves appear in the Curve submenu for me:

But I was looking for other extra mesh objects. (See snippet)
Wasn't objects like "truncated icosahedron" part of the extra objects?

Is is still present, but you might be confusing things because there are 2 "extra objects" addons. One for Curves. And one for Meshes. Be sure to enable the following:

Additionally, the UI changed 9 years ago... that screenshot is out of date. You access things like Icosahedrons as follows:
