Blender 4.0 onward
Broken: (example: Blender 4.0 + 4.1 + 4.2 onward)
Worked: (Blender 3.6 LTS and prior)

a CATASTROPHIC animall addon bug causes blender to freeze

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
add suzane! subdivide her couple times and apply the modifier, nooow bring up that animall panel and pick ''location'' to animate the vertices aaaand its frozen there!
it only bugs out when you attempt to create they keyframe in blender 4.0+m but if u have a file created in a prior version even its a dense mesh that is already animated it will WORK (but blender 4.0 will still freeze if u attempt to modify the mesh animation or do anything with it)

guys this is a catastrophic issue as our workflow relies heavily on animall for the sake of optimization and not having to ''simulate'' stuff when we can artistically make them with mesh animations, not to mention the ability to animate UVs and and and...
PLEASE have a look at this asap im panicking !!

Hi, I can’t reproduce this performance regression. I tried subdividing Suzanne 3 times and applying, then inserting keys on all vertex locations. I timed the operation:

  • In Blender 3.6, it took 51s.
  • In Blender 4.2, it took 47s.

After that, playback is fairly smooth in both cases.

I wouldn’t say that inserting 180000 keyframes is fast or comfortable, but it seems to be about the same as before.

  • How many subdivisions are you using exactly?
  • Did you enable “Key Selected Only” in one of your tests?
  • Could you try again after loading factory settings?

yes actually i did not enable ''key selected only'' because i am deforming the mesh with falloff either in edit mode or sculpt mode! so it wouldnt work i assume it will only add keyframe for the vertex i am currently selecting and not the affected ones with the falloff right?
or am i not understanding how the addon function properly?
if i enable ''key selected only'' it will of course work as it is only calculating lets say a single vertex if im moving it with fallof in edit mode!

(the subdivision dosnt matter as long as the mesh is slightly dense as this issue keeps happening with many different models)

i am enabling addons and settings that were there since 3.6 and prior but i will try to reset the whole settings and see and ill update u! thanks my guy!

update: nope! factory reset aint helping 😭

update: oooh when i hover the mouse over animall addon on the N tab it gets mega laggy but not the other addon tabs there!

NOTE : this issue is happening on 4 different computers with beefy specs 32 gigs minimum so it is not hardware thing i suppose or specific to one error prone pc and its blender settings as each pc have its seperate user but we are experienceing the same issue

That’s right.

(the subdivision dosnt matter as long as the mesh is slightly dense as this issue keeps happening with many different models)

Right, but it would help to know the approximate number of vertices before you have the issue.

Thanks for testing.

This looks like another issue, and I can reproduce it. Does the mouse over lag happen with 4.2 as well? It should be fixed for this version, but it won’t be for 4.1 because there won’t be another release of it.

I've run into this in 4.1, but seemed to come and go.... sometimes sluggish, sometimes not. (Basic sphere with 80 vertexes).

Would be rather awesome if there's a way for the fix to also update the 4.1 addon, as many might not be adopting 4.2 anytime soon due to Eevee Legacy being removed.

@thorn-neverwake You can try installing this version (make a backup of the original one), which is just the version from 4.2 with the bl_info metadata added back so it works pre-4.2. It seems to work in 3.6 here, but I’m unsure right now if that will help with the performance issues.

Hi Damien,

I can confirm that the version does install/work in 4.1, and at the moment I'm not seeing any lag at all... so i tentatively think: problem solved? Thanks so much for your time on that. :)

@thorn-neverwake Thanks for testing!

@thorn-neverwake Thanks for testing!

Sorry, quick update - would like to confirm that playback is massively faster. It went from around 5fps (basically a slideshow) to a very zippy 25fps!
