Short description of error

I am getting shadow from rim object which I assigned no shadow material onto rim.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
adding rim object with solidify modifier and then applying 2nd material to rim, which has no shadow but still reading from original material it looks.

  • i don't even know what i'm looking at...
  • change from shade smooth to shade flat and your so called shadow is gone
  • how is it fbx related? Seems either to be a user error or a blender bug for which reports go to https://projects.blender.org/blender/blender

Ok it is actually shade rather than shadow.
these 2 flat geo is exactly same except for rim solidify. it is set smooth shading.
I expect no shade with rim as it is flat but you see shade.
this is not fbx relate, so I will report the other link too then

thanks

Ah, now i get you. The result you see is expected behaviour. Use mark sharp to resolve the issue.

  1. go to edit mode
  2. select the outer edges, where the shadow/shade is
  3. mark sharp (ctrl + e)

See attached files.

If this solves the issue, you can close your reports.

Awesome!
I wonder if there is a way to select edge rather than manual? how is solidify detecting rim edge?
cheers
