Setting the preference to Gpu Compute with Metal Gpu enabled causes the viewport to not render the scene. Swapping to Cpu, Eevee, or Workbench.

Enabling Metal in the preferences and selecting Gpu then selecting Gpu Compute in the Render Properties Panel
