System Information
Operating system: MacOS Big Sur 11.2.3
Graphics card: Intel UHD Graphics 630 1536 MB

Blender Version
Broken: 2.92.0 2021-02-25
(example: 2.79b release)
(example: 2.80, edbf15d3c044, blender2.8, 2018-11-28, as found on the splash screen)
Worked: (optional)

Short description of error
I have several bones in one armature which were parented to my mesh with automatic weights. I go into weight paint mode and paint for the bone that is selected by default. I use the Command + left click on a new bone in order to weight paint for that bone and as soon as I perform the click it crashes blender.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Based on the default startup or an attached .blend file (as simple as possible).

  1. add a second cube mesh above original cube mesh with small gap.
  2. join both cubes into 1 mesh command+j
  3. add an armature and two bones, one for each cube.
  4. parent the armature to the cubes with automatic weights
  5. go into weight paint mode.
  6. go into edit mode and select all of the vertices of one cube
  7. go back into weight paint mode
  8. select the mask option so that you will only be weight painting the masked vertices
  9. command+left click on the bone that is NOT currently selected and it will crash.

Might be the same as blender/blender#84268 (Crash when selecting in weight mode (Paint Mask)).
Could you provide the crash log?
https://docs.blender.org/manual/en/dev/troubleshooting/crash.html

Closing due to lack of response for over a week but as a duplicate of blender/blender#84268 (Crash when selecting in weight mode (Paint Mask)) since steps are very similar.
Please report if the crash persists in newer versions.
