Crash and Prevents Opening Blender Until I Restart My computer When I Open Source Filmmaker #90780

!!Turns out it might not be a Blender issue!!

Another program causes Blender to crash and can not launch until I restart my computer. I think I'm just going to bring it into a computer repair shop and have them look at it because I give up. I have no idea.

System Information
Operating system: Windows 10 Home 64 bit
Graphics card: AMD Radeon VII

Blender Version
2.93.3 from Steam

Short description of error
Blender crashes whenever I open the Source Filmmaker external software app from Steam and prevents opening again until I restart my computer

I did a clean install of Source Filmmaker, but I did not do a clean install of Blender yet.

I disabled the last few add-ons that I installed but it still crashes

I tried using the blender_debug_gpu.cmd and blender_debug_gpu_glitchworkaround.cmd but it doesn't fill in a text log of the debug output. It's just blank because it takes forever to finish. (After reproducing steps)

I tried starting Blender with factory settings and it still doesn't load. (After reproducing steps)

As of making this report, I tried exactly how to reproduce the steps and it still happens.

I figured out some workarounds in the meantime but this hasn't happened before.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Launch 2.93.3 Steam version of Blender
Install and Launch Source Filmmaker from Steam

~~ - Wait past the splash screen until the "New Session" window~~

After the Source Filmmaker splash screen, Blender goes into (Not Responding) and prevents reloading a new instance of Blender until I restart my computer.

Updates:

  • Tried running task manager in the background, nothing strange such as CPU going 100 percent when SFM launches. I'm going to try a completely clean install of Blender. EDIT Didn't work
  • Tried running an experimental build after launching Source Filmmaker, still didn't work.
  • Installed an older version of Blender (2.90.1), still didn't work.~~
  • Thorough clean installs of both Blender and SFM (hard deleting current files associated with them), didn't work.~~

I didn't find "Source Filmmaker" among the addons that the Blender team supports.
Are you sure this is the name of the addon and this is the bug tracker channel linked to it?

@mano-wii Oh sorry I failed to mention that it's software that one could download off of the Steam platform, I'll update the post.

It is not usual to investigate problems involving third party software.
But I installed Source Filmmaker and Blender from Steam. Both are open and running normally.

Please double-check if the drivers are up to date and the hardware meets Blender's requirements: https://www.blender.org/download/requirements

@mano-wii Ok, thanks for waiting. I did AMD driver cleanup with fresh drivers installed. It's still doing the same thing.

I reset my computer again, and I got the debug cmds to work, what would you prefer for a debug log? I can guess I can rule out the factory_startup one right?

blender_debug_gpu_output.txt
@mano-wii Here's the debug GPU output if it helps

I still can't reproduce the problem.
The debug_gpu_output shows that the blender apparently closed normally. It doesn't seem like much help in this case :\

I notice you have addons enabled. Could they be resulting in the problem?

Please try the latest daily build: https://builder.blender.org/download/

Go to File → Defaults → Load Factory Settings and see if you still can reproduce this issue.

So here's the question, can debug_gpu_output record what blender is doing when Source Filmmaker is starting?
(I'm doing what you suggested while I'm asking this)

dwm 08-20-2021 03-53 843 PM.png After launching Source Filmmaker it usually gets stuck on this screen after closing and relaunching Blender.

@mano-wii Well here's an interesting turn of events, I tried to run a PortableApps version of Blender and it still doesn't work.

Without replicating the problem, I can't think of a way to solve the problem. (Unfortunately, I have no idea what might be happening)
Are the steps described really the minimum necessary to reproduce the problem?
You say we should "Install and Launch Source Filmmaker". Does this mean that if Source Filmmaker is already installed, the problem goes away?
Does it need to be through Steam?

When saying: "might not be a Blender issue", it still not clear why the report was closed :\

Anyway, if you discover anything that indicates more precisely what caused the problem, please let us know.

@Nit_Pick Have you found a solution ? I have a similar problem, I suspect Krita to be the cause of my crash, but I'm not sure. I render a first time, everything goes well, I render a second time, the render end, evrything done, and when I try to save, Blender crash and refuse to open again unless I restart my computer. there is no crash log, no crash.txt, nothing. It just refuses to open again. I tried with Blender 3.3, 3.1, 2.9. My scene is quite simple, no heavy texture, I'm not rendering in 4K (and the render works, it crashes when I try to save). I updated everything I could on my PC (windows, geforce, Intel)
