Alt + Backspace works for me.

But even if it would not work, I think it would be better to make report for buggy feature rather than documentation issue. Can you specify steps you are following?

  1. Make a text object.
  2. Enter to Edit Mode.
  3. Press Alt+Backspace hotkeys and R (for example) after. If press Alt+Backspace+R simultaneously it's also does not work.

Although, I now tried pressing those keys when the Text > Special Characters menu was open and it worked.
Perhaps this is how it should work? But nothing is written about this in the documentation ... (and then the meaning of these keys is not very clear if you still need to open the menu).

I wasn't aware of this feature at all, but just from reading documentation I was able to check this functionality. So here are steps I followed:

  • Open General template
  • Delete cube
  • Add text object
  • Enter edit mode
  • Delete text
  • Press O
  • Press Alt + Backspace
  • Press /

You should see Ø character.

Here menu was not involved at all, but perhaps it could not work if your mouse cursor was in different editor? That could explain why it wouldn't work.

Oops, that's my mistake. I didn't notice that you have to put one more character at the beginning.
Yes, you are right, everything is working properly. This is my carelessness. I apologize.
