System Information
Operating system: macOS-10.15.7-x86_64-i386-64bit 64 Bits

Blender Version
Broken: version: 3.4.0 Alpha, branch: master, commit date: 2022-10-21 18:48, hash: blender/blender@04eab0fd01

Short description of error
As I am going through pages of online manual, I try to recreate examples that was put on the page. I have been disappointed to try matching what I see and what I actually get from the software. This one is just an instance of it:

This page:

https://docs.blender.org/manual/en/dev/modeling/geometry_nodes/utilities/compare.html

and here is the example image on the page:

https://docs.blender.org/manual/en/dev/_images/modeling_geometry-nodes_utilities_compare_direction.png

But this is what I just managed to produce by copying arrangements of nodes followed the image in the example given on the page:

Screenshot 2022-11-13 at 21.15.57.png

and here is the file I'm using:
20221113_texture_node_learning_compare_failed_0001.blend

I definitely think all examples demo on pages should have a link to the file created that image available for all users to access and download so they can see for themselves what has been done and how the examples were created to learn from. Please make this possible. I do not personally think there should be anything hidden since the software is an Open Source.

  1. I don't see a problem in the documentation example.
  2. What is the problem with your example? I see that you didn't make it exactly like there. But the essence of the example is not in duplicating the example, but in how only ONE of the nodes works. In theory, how everything else works should be known in advance.
  3. Is this a request to change the paperwork? The geometry node project has example files and test files. But this is very different from the documentation.

Where can I find files that created those examples, please? Those published examples should be available for viewers of the documentation. If you're giving examples for your works it should be available publicly.

I doubt they are. Although I'm not affiliated with the documentation, anything is possible.
I have listed example files of geometry nodes and test files of geometry nodes just because they are completely different files with their own purpose. And if there are no documentation example files, it means that your request is to create a bunch of example files for all the documentation

I meant when those files created for examples to be published on the documentation, they should be made available in some repository somewhere and public viewers can access those files. I believe those files are still there with documentation team, and they should be made publicly available.

I would humbly suggest that having blend files per example is way more trouble to maintain for the manual than it's worth. As Blender data formats change with versions, that would mean we would have to maintain tens (close to hundred perhaps) of files which would be a maintenance nightmare.

These node trees are so simple that they can be created within 1-2 minutes. There's no real reason or benefit to having blend files for them all.

Further, I copied the example from the manual and it worked exactly as shown, so there's no real defect here.

In general, if this report is a documentation feedback or a feature request, it can be closed as it doesn't need to be corrected.

I personally don't see the amount of work that you claim to have manage. They are just the same as any other materials that you have to deal with, like images etc. The information however it's very important because it might be passing to one of your relatives or even for yourself as references. Nobody can read and remember everything but it is good idea to store what have you done in order to trace back to where it has been and that is more important than anything else. It is called knowledge.
