Short description of error

Use the background of the theme. This can be configured in the Themes Preferences under 3D Viewport ‣ Theme Space ‣ Gradient Colors.

I am reading the Manual "cover to cover", and yet I have no idea at all where to find this setting. Most likely it has been moved and/or renamed until the current version of Blender?

This option is found here as described:

This could be improved by documenting all the theme options but that is a known todo and outside the scope of this bug report.
